So we just hooked up IP phones with the main offices in boston. Does this mean the main office can now monitor/track our internet usage?

yes
no
ip phone = using phone via interweb

it's not like skype where i'm talking through my computer - it's an actual phone plugged into our router. we're now directly connected to our boston office. Instead of calling our direct phone line, now all they have to do is dial a 3 digit extension to get me at my desk.

yes i know its like cisco ip phone system
think of it this way. there are skype phones that doesnt need computer to use
same thing

i see... so how do i know if i should worry or not?

no, do not worry. it is just another machine running over a unique port on a broadband connection.

well because if they wanted to track your internet usage there will be a tracking software with in your computer
most larger companies do that
something like remote desktop software such as ARD Agent can be used as listening device
Check your activity monitor to see if there are unusual software thats running. and simple quit it.
for PCs there go to task manager and do the same. in PCs, most of the listening softwares have icons of binoculars or satellite dishes.

if they have monitoring software on the machine, he will not have the admin privileges to see it, let alone quit it.

no one has touched our computers - i know that for a fact - it's strictly phones but they are using the same internet access as our machines.
