Anyone else feeling this way about Apple and their products? I switched to a mac earlier this year and I am starting to get all of the "logic board" issues and harddrive problems and a pretty crappy attitude form the "geniuses" at the genius bar.
We have all come to accept that our iPods may be DOA or they will freeze up for no reason or the battery will die within a year or so... Should we just come to expect the same from our Apple computers?
The only thing that ever killed any PC I've ever owned is a virus that was such a pain to remove that it made the computer worthless. I can't help but think that if someone wanted to start writing viruses for Macs, Apple would fold.
Anyone sharing this sentiment?

(Oct 24 07, 08:09)I think this too, but I disagree about Apple's level of service. It's not that bad, at least in my experience.
None of my Apple products have died prematurely.
*knocks on woodI have heard about horrible stories having to do with Apple AND other companies.
Many people will always choose style over substance. I'm not saying Apple is exactly all style and no substance, but it is perceived to be that way.

As a Mac user....I have to say...they are getting pretty lousy customer service wise
I may be using my last Mac

My Apple hardware experiences:
- my G4 is 6.5 years old. it's kicking mad ass still, considering how old it is. Only problem I've had with it is the combo drive won't burn DVDs anymore.
- 4th generation iPod: had to replace it 4 times within the one year warranty period; they all died within about a 3 month period. Pure shit.
- iPhone: I love it and it's kicking ass
- iPod Shuffle: got one two months ago and it's awesome. I think it's just so fuckin simple there's little room for error or sudden death

oh yeah, next 20 year old "Genius Bar" motherfucker that gives me an attitude might get power slammed onto that fuckin "bar"

(Oct 24 07, 08:16)Best comment i have ever heard
"sorry sir BUT i dont think apple was around 20 years ago"
when i told them that i been using Apple since 1985

I hope I don't have to deal with anyone like that. The 3-4 people I had to deal with in Apple sales and support were pretty helpful.

after having had two regular ipods die on me, i switched to the nanos, the reasoning being no moving parts = less potential for failure and i've been right so far, 2.5 years, going strong.
but yeah, calling them is pure pain, so is calling anyone these days, tho.

I've felt this way for years, and MrD hit the nail on the head.
The thing about Apple is, that it's not a particularly good computer (software aside). The competition is just worse.
I've had all the weird little shit you could possibly imagine - some of them even refered to as "impossible" by Apple tech. For example, the internal sound on my MBP 17" suddenly stopped working - only works with speakers plugged in. A red light has been glowing from inside the slot ever since. WTF?
I hate all computers, I just hate Apple the least.

my first mac was a mac classic, and ive been using them ever since. Never had any problems with any machine (save for one lightning strike). in addition, Ipod 3rd generation still runs all day every day, no hitches.
in my books, they are tops.

i must say, i like Apple's software
its cute but not so functional in a pro user
if i had a choice i would use Windows 2000.
it raw and i can manipulate it much as i want.

MrD - that's hilarious that he said Apple wasn't around 20 years ago. What a jackass!
We had Apples in my classroom in 1983 around the time I was in second grade.

(Oct 24 07, 08:20)Couldn't agree more.
However, that said, I have yet to have these problems, and I've always had good service in the maybe, say...five times I've used the "Genuis Bar" thing.

i first noticed that production issue on the eMac
i noticed that they used different plastic on the speaker covers.
the materials / color was off.
