hey I'm travelling long haul at the weekend and was intending on taking a couple of external hard drives, probably put in my case.
Do they fly ok?
Any damage to the hd?

depends on your HD
you need a really good protection
i had HD cracked or scratched due to baggage being thrown
good idea to take it with you as a carry on.

ahh yes
if I pack one in a case then it will be in the middle of my clothes in its original box/packing so I think it will be ok?the other lacie I will take hand luggage as you advise

I sure the fuck wouldn't put it in checked luggage. Those throwers beat the crap out of the luggage.
Carry on would probably be fine. I've taken my WD Passport with me quite a bit.

or you need these expensive so called "data tanks" (?), they can take a serious rough handling.. i think they contain just sd/flash/xd chip technology though..
