Are you looking for yakuza style ink or just a good tattoo shop in Japan?
I got mine here:

Really nice guys, I like there work as well. No english, so have someone call to set up an appointment in Japanese. I'll be going back there in May and have them do a coverup.
These guys also look interesting:

Also, realize that if you sport tattoos in Japan it's still somewhat taboo. It's nowhere near as discriminated against as it once was, but forget about using a public bath house and other such amenities. Someplaces might let you slide on the "gaijin" tag,, but not too much, especially if you have more than one piece or lots of work...

In Japan you will want to check out three tides tattoo,
Yellow Blaze bt Shige, Horitoshi Family, Horitoshi the third is the most famous tattoo artist in japan but it is unlikely you will be able to book an appointment this quickly. what city do you live in

(Nov 13 07, 09:11)Um, how much do you know about Japan exactly?
- Meeklo0
Also, I thnk you are thinking of Irezumi (traditional tatoo with bamboo sticks, chisels and gouges)
- woodyBatts0
i am getting a sleeve done by Horitoshi's apprentice, it took me 2 years to get the tat started.
You also may want to consider that it may take more than one sitting 2 weeks apart, depending how it is done, and where it is.

(Nov 13 07, 09:15)That's some serious painful shit...yet cool...
funny how that works, innit?
- woodyBatts0
I have the irezumi, it's actually a lot less painful then the gun, it also heals differently.

(Nov 13 07, 09:32)Less painfull than the gun?? are you kidding me?
I mean, I only have it done the most common way with a gun, and the gun does not hurt unless its done over a bone (on my experience at least) I cant imagine that a regular tattoo and traditional irezumi in the same body part will result in irezumi being less painfull..I mean, you got it done that way, so you obviously know what it is like, is just that I thougt it was more painfull...
do you have regular gun tattoos done as well?
- TheBlueOne0
i'll tattoo it on my fist...

(Nov 13 07, 09:35)You sir are insane. Why not tattoo your neck while your at it?
However why not do T-O-K-Y-O on each digit. Like Ozzy, but with the thumb and your's will say "Tokyo"...see what I did there...
- chrisRG0
Actually I haven't decide yet what I'll tattoo, I've been thinking about "life's a holiday" in kanji on the right fist and have no idea for the left fist yet,. The sure thing is that I gonna do this.
Btw, hey TheBlueOne your place looks interesting, will you be there before May, or only after that?
- woodyBatts0
I thought it would be more painful but it's not. The gun irritates and bruises the skin, where the tebori "plucks" the skin so it never "jabs."
When i had the work on my elbow done, it was a meditation in pain, especially b/c it takes so long, but compared to the gun, tebori is where it's at.
Yes I have "gun" tats as well.
Also I don't recommend ever getting tats on your hands, neck or face. It's not a judgement against you, just a recommendment.
