Thats what I was thinking...

I like their 'friend' logo work, that's really quite lovely.

the friend logo is brilliant. best logo i have seen in ages. shame they didn't have the same imagination for their site.
- Leigh0
ahhh it's because they are down under.
- detritus0
You've got shite taste, skt.
Yeah, so the site's similar - but they don't appear to be an interactive agency, so I don't really care. There're only so many routes a functional, minimal template can go. Not trying to justify it - just saying that it's not the end of the world.
- skt0
fuck you, you nonce. it's a lovely logo.
- Leigh0
it's shame becuase they have nice work.

hardly groundbreaking sites, but both their work is great so lets all put it behind us a move on :-)

in defense of the Layfield:
1) at least their site doesn't resize my browser
2) their work is of a high quality (not a high as made thought but good)
3) a drop down menu is hardly ground breaking. It does have a lot in common with made thought's site but not majorly

well i work at de-construct so i'm biassed.

Give Mime a call I think he did the MT site. fuckin' ripper ;)
- kelpie0
that friend logo is brill.
Its funny that the site is SO like made thought, considering that its such a simple site, surely the same result could have been arrived at without completely copying all the movement, functionality and feel of it.

What kelpie said...
and yep I liked that friend logo too, also the recreation identity is lovely!

Leigh, I don't think anyone would argue the layfield site it better.
You guys created the site specifically for madethought so it suits their needs and displays their great work very well.Any siite that is copied will never fit as well as one that was concieved specifically for a given studio.
I am intrigued though what legal restrictions there are in place with regards to copyrighting a web design. Can you copyright the code? Since the code is always visible to all users.
It's morally wrong to rip off a web design but you see it a lot and I can't see how it can be prevented.I seem to remember another site that had literally ripped off the madethought site even down to the style the work was photographed. I think it was an irish company. Then once people on here saw it they changed the design over night!
- skt0
code isn't always visible for flash sites baskerville.
you can decompile it though. but something as simple as these sites can be recreated very easily without looking at the code.
my guess is that layfield didn't build the site, paid a web agency to do it and they copied the made thought site.
- Dancer0
Ok so De-Construct did it.
I'm shit, I shall now leave and go over to QBN Beta where I hear there are about 3 people....

Enter response:yeah nothing to do with me

how anyone can say it is not a rip off is fooling themselves... the madeThought site is much more than just a bunch of drop downs , there are saved states, and showing exactly where you are within the site... that is not just a drop down...
but boiling it down... the highlights are even the same!
very damaging if you're layfield... and annoying if you're madeThought
- kelpie0
IS he fucking blind? ;)
