Anyone used? Recommend? Tips?

I used it before and didn't have any problems. It was about 2 years ago and I don't remember much about it which is a good thing as there were no major problems.

I've used it on a couple of projects and it's worked well.
There are some hoops you need to get used to jumping through. For example, in a lot of a cases I found myself thinking, "how do you turn this off?", etc., and had to resort to Google to find where the setting was hidden in the admin panel.
The template override system is a good tool and makes customization easily accievable.

Ive used it about 2 years ago, it works well and does what you need it to, even tho you will have to spend some time getting used to it, like customizing the layout and adding modules and stuff like that, so its a good solution but not a quick one

it's sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo...
SLOW and not many hosts can put it on a server that will manage it at a decent peed

I am a UI designer for e-commerce software. I would have to give Zen Cart a very low usability rating. The menus are huge and not labeled intuitively. Working on similar tasks can be across multiple menus. You have to be very tech savvy to customize anything. Instead of a simple UI control you will find yourself digging though 10 directory levels to change code in files. Files are named similarly in multiple folders. You may run into problems with no straightforward solutions. It is incredibly cumbersome to remove the junk in the side columns and elsewhere. I didn't even get into site design.
I was trying to use it for the recurring billing module. It was a waste of time. I ditched it and coded it all custom with the authorize.net api and it was way easier and cleaner.
- If you have the time and depending or your specific needs it can't hurt to give it a try.seed

I used it quite recently - bit cloudy to start with but once I got my head around the workings it was easy enough to knock into shape.
The project it was for meant that it didn't need to be too sophisticated - and all the payment side of things are for one time payments.
I don't know if I would recommend it - but it did the job for me - and the client is happy that she can use it okay - she is a technophobe of the highest order - and she is getting to grips with it admirably.
There are a few add-ons on the zencart site - but if you want a store that achieves this sort of result (not the aesthtics but the functionality)

zencart 'wouldn't' be the one to choose!Horses for courses I guess - did the job for my clients needs, but I would imagine there are more sophisticated open source stores/carts you could use.
Good luck!

The reason I picked Zen Cart is it has a Canada Post shipping module which accurately calculates shipping for my fellow Canadians.
