my old powerbook does that (g4) sometimes. i just close it again and open it back up and it wakes up.

I had this once with my Macbook, turned out when i upgraded my RAM i didn't push it in hard enough and it came loose (this was weeks after).

Try turning off airport before you put it to sleep, airport is known to sometimes conflict with it's sleep quality...
