I dont care wich one wins, honestly its about content, right now you go to the store and there is like 40 movies on each format, and most of them are crap. So the win-loose situation right now means zero to me. Put some of the good movies out in HD (or blu ray) and then will see who wins.

HD-DVD does have some benefits. Despite the capacity issue, they are easier to make (vendors can modify existing DVD manufacturing equipment), are more resilient (data is 0.6mm below surface vs 0.1 on BluRay) and the format has more interactive features. Plus it's not proprietary Sony.
They also have created a 51GB 3 layer HD-DVD format.
Currently,I really don't care which format wins, as a good upconverting DVD player does the trick for now. But hey, for once maybe Sony will bring out a format that actually goes somewhere. I mean with a track record like... betamax, memory stick, digital 8, UMD etc. you be the judge :)

Not to mention that the movies look better in blu-ray.
I was comparing them and blu-ray looked like a step up from dvd, hd-dvd did not.so I just took the plunge and went with blu-ray, movies look great.
Load up time is a little slow.- also I noticed Blockbuster only carries blu-raysofakingzero

I couldnt care less about movies, I want to be able to burn 40 gigs on a dual layer blu ray disc.

Is there really that much of a difference than just your standard DVD? I mean, a DVD looks pretty fantastic on my LCD...unless they're in f'ing 3D or if they include some form of smell-o-vision I think I'll hold out for a while.
- oh, there's a difference
http://www.cornbread…stupidresponse - If you mouse over the shot of the people sitting in a pub, they clap! Fantastic!CincodeMayo

Doesn't matter - HD will be piped through or cpus soon enough. hard media is going away
- not for backups.mrdobolina
- dobs, you dont use hard drives for backups yet?Meeklo
- huh?mrdobolina
- hard drives are still "hard media"mrdobolina
- of course I do, but I still burn dvd's as other backups. redundancy.mrdobolina
- of course they are, did you ever doubted about it? I was asking cause I saw posted earlier about being interested on BR for backupsMeeklo
- BR for backups.
Honestly I haven't burned a backup on a dvd in a year, HD are so cheap these days
Meeklo - I burn dvd's all the time.mrdobolina
- oh yea?
are you burning one right now?
Meeklo - get it?Meeklo
- I am burning that porn you starred in on one right now.mrdobolina

if you have a 1080p TV, Blu-Ray is awesome. but i must say it depends on the movie. I was thinking it had to do with the age of the film but I watched Halloween on Blu-Ray and it was like watching a NEW movie. unbelievable.

yeah I saw Blu-ray of Pirates of the Caribbean at Circuit City ... and it took me a second to comprehend how clear the picture was
I was blown away by the picture qualityI would like to see Blu-ray and HD DVD played right next to each other
- see what I mean? pirates of the caribean on BR. How about a good movie?Meeklo

I doubt you'll be able to notice any difference between a Blu-ray and HD DVD movie. I'm still fine with normal DVD quality and won't be buying any HD shit anytime soon.
- most def ... im waiting this one out .... I've already wasted so much money on reg dvdsRamanisky2
- Me too. But I have been planning to sell them all on eBay for like ... two years. I think I need to strike now.flavorful
- except for maybe the boxsets of like seinfeld and always sunny in philly & the wireRamanisky2
- sounds like someone who hasn't tasted HD :)Mojo
- Meeklo0
yeah quality is better, but sometime that hurts the movie, specially when CGI is being used, quality got so good that you can now tell a lot easier. the opposite is for documentary works, planet earth looks great.

interesting: DVD vs HD screen grabs. huge difference. i'd like to see a hddvd vs blu ray though.

What has the porn industry gone with? That holds some weight, no?
- They chose HD-DVD... but as mentioned, who cares when you get porn through the interweb. There was no web in VHS/Betamax days.ETM

Blu-Ray prices go up:
http://www.rlslog.net/blu-ray-pr…"Within just the last two weeks, te average prices for LG’s BH200 player and Sharp’s BD-HP20U have climbed significantly. Every standlone Blu-ray-specific player in the chart above is now more expensive than it was at the beginning of the year. Ironically, although Blu-ray has been declared the winner, it is right now about the worst time to invest in a standalone Blu-ray player."
- PS3 is cheaper than most of themdesignerror
- Yup, It's probably the cheapest of all.Jaline
- Meeklo0
Why do people keep saying that about the porn industry?
I really doubt that "Back door sluts 9" will out sale any non porn blockbuster. ever. You see a movie star and they have huge mansions and most of them look healthy.
Take a look at a pornstar, they all look skinny as hell, probably because they been snorting ritalin all year long, suckin d*ck to pay rent.
- because the porn industry was the decider in VHS vs BETAstupidresponse
- but wasn't that like 25 years ago?
Lets compare sales today.Meeklo - Billions and billions of dollars. Oh they have a stake in it allright.harlequino
- And it's not the pornstars, it's the distribution companies and holding companies.harlequino
- yeah, they're pretty big.Jaline
- In ... more ways than one?
Ah thank you.flavorful - no doubt they are pretty big, butthey are just a small % when compared to film studios, yes?Meeklo
