    Hi,
Well i just received my new laptop, i got a Dell XPS 1530 , im pretty satisfied with the performance so far, but in order to cram the nice performance parts in it I had to sacrifice Hard Disk space, therefore i only got a 160GB 7200rpm drive.

I just opened my company with a partner, i work part time from home and part time at the office, i use my laptop when im at the office, so i need to be able to carry alot of psd and ressources and stuff for all my frequent clients because i often have to switch between one project to another during the day, so this is why id like to have a portable drive which would allow me to keep everything with me no mather where I am.

Do you guys know if it is possible to work from a portable HD ? my laptop has firewire and usb ports, ... would I be able to open files from my portable hd, create/edit/work on them then save them, without having to transfer the file on my laptop first and without too much performance decrease ? I usualy work on psd file that are from 50mb to 200mb in general, depending on what i do... Is it possible or its not recommended ?
How does that compare to working on files that are located on a network server , because ive done that alot at my other job and its not really a problem, maybe opening / saving takes a bit more time ...

Any suggestions for good drives ?

I work primarily off a portable, external HD when I'm at home. I notice a very minor performance lag when opening up folders sometimes, but it's not enough to bug me.

I use a pair of WD MyBook editions. 1 as a primary and one as a back-up. They're actually kind of old by today's computer standards but they work great for me.
