Has anyone here added MLS search capabilities to a website?
I'm working on a site for a realtor and I can not find a way to do this that does not involve licensing from a third party (something like IDX).
So if anyone knows if there is a code bank or has another way that works, I sure would appreciate hearing about it.

can you call mls? or are they telling you to use a third party? i work for a real estate company but i have no idea how it works... we have a huge database run by another company that collects all that info, so i guess that would be the 3rd party you mention
sorry, saw a term i recognized and tried to help, but i have nothing to offer... haha

haha, yeah, that is what I was going to do if all else failed - just get in touch with the MLS people and see what they say. It seems like a lot of people are using something by IDX, but that may just be due to google rank.

I third contacting MLS, they probably have an unbranded version you can place headers and footers on or include into your docs.

Is MLS an ID that you wouldn't necessarily have access to, or be able to assign to a Realty Entry?
I've seen them before, but I guess I don't know what they are used for.
I always thought they were a Unique ID to whatever was on the market. :X

im supposed to be working on a redesign... that has been ongoing since 2006, yes you read that right... this company wants way too much completely irrelevant info on their site. and theyve been waiting on a redesign for the database...
oh and the layout is ass awful and i cant change it because its already been approved... i keep trying to fiddle with the css and the colors but no matter what i do it still looks like ass..
sigh... have a meeeting about it with marketing soon, maybe they'll tell me it sucks and i can start over...
- i didnt create the layout, whoever i replaced did... it sucks734
- redesigning with someone else's work is always fun.flashbender

I guess basically my question is ... if the MLS ID is unique to each real estate entry you have ... treat that like any search, but particularly on that data point.

Let me preface this by saying I don;t know that much about it, but yes, I think MLS is a unique ID, and what I'm looking at doing is putting the MLS search interface (but better looking) on the realtor's page so people could search by price, location, bedrooms...
Also I want to see if it is possible to create a "pre-defined" search, such as having a map of the Minneapolis neighborhoods that a user could click to see all listings for an area and then they could c=filter down from there.
I am sure the code is out there somewhere since I've seen some googlemaps mashups that have houses for sale on the maps.
So, yeah, thanks for the input, I'll just check with MLS directly.

have you looked into Rets? http://www.rets.org/

check to see if google or yahoo handles their listings already... you might be able to use that info

Just mimic the search for Price, Location or Bedrooms in the query...
Except the MLS textbox represents the MLS Unique ID that is attributed to the database field.
You are already searching on those fields with no problem ... think of this as just another field in your database?
- that is beyond my meager development skills. I mostly make sure things pretty and a joy to use. But that is something to think aboutflashbender
- something to think about - I could contract a dev guy to handle that if I need to.flashbender
