Always print bad.Keep getting odd hairlines. Does everyone else always migrate to photoshop before print?

Actually Illustrator prints better than photoshop.
There reason you are getting those lines is because the difference between the colors on the gradient is not that much. There is some sort of math equation someone told me many years ago, but I dnt remember..

are you getting banding? this may be because your color profile does not match the printer you are printing to

and never use hairlines, it cause the printer to output at the minimum valur possible for the machine, witch is always different from one printer to another.

When I use gradient for a big surface, I do it in photoshop to put some noise in it, to avoid banding.

I always bring my gradients into photoshop and give it a bit of noise. I hate it for file size, especially on huge print items, but I've always done it. I'd also love to know any tricks in Illy that can stop me from having to do this.
