My hosting is up for renewal and I'm wondering whether to stick with my current provider or change to someone else.
My questions are:
1. Who might you recommend, based on value, support, capacity etc etc etc
2. Is it a royal pain in the arse to swap hosts? Should I just stick with who I'm with?
My current supplier is names.co.uk for no reason other than when I signed up it was half price and the are in the neighboring office. I can see them if I look out of the window over my right shoulder.
Your thoughts will be warmly welcomed.

Definately http://www.oneandone.co.uk
Avoid EasyNet and Corpex at ALL COST!

Oneandone look pretty good. Why have you recommended them? Do you use them yourself?
- RoomFive0
Used them dozens of times, highly recommend them. Best reason is probably their web stats service you get in your control panel, it's very user friendly and just does the job! Like ANY web host their customer service is pathetic (although the best of the many I've dealt with), but you rarely if ever need to call them for anything so it's okay.

We (at he place I part time for) use DC Hosting – Site ain't up to much but they have been very reliable:
http://dc-hosting.com/I hate GoDaddy and Network Solutions

i use fasthosts but given a fresh start id go with webfusion... fasthosts dont do onsite ssl webfusion do and theyre slightly cheaper!

This is confusing! Soooooo many to choose from. How do you pick one from any of the others around?!
One thing is I will probably want to run wordpress (on top of a normal site) so need:
* PHP 4.2 or greater
* MySQL 4.0 or greater
* The mod_rewrite Apache moduleWho offers that the cheapest?!

Plus I should probably have said that I don't need anything too advanced – the wordpress thing probably means I'll end up with a package higher spec'd that I actually need.
Actually... why do I need wordpress? It's a bit shitty really... hmmm...
Ok, change of heart, no wordpress, nothing fancy... recommend bitches!!!
So far I'm thinking...
1. OneAndOne
2. Webfusion
3. ?

If you host with a company in the US you can take advantage of the $ to £ exchange rate if you pay by credit card.

are you wanting to host other sites on it? If you've got 15 - 20 clients go for a dedicated server at rackspace.com Its pretty expensive but they're pretty much the best around.
If most of your sites are in the uk don't go for a US or other IPS(esp (mt) - in my opinion they're crap and we've had over 30 clients with them but now there all hosted on our fatty dedicated and life has been much more peacefull) as the distance does actually have an effect. Try ping, or traceroute to see how much time it actually takes to get to servers before going with them!
- The company I work for uses them. Never had any problemscreative-

webfusion - been with em for years. OKish. Not sure if there is much difference. Customer Service is fairly good, cost is not bad, server is up 99% of the time.
Thinking of upgrading to a VPS with them.
Don't use 123reg for hosting though.

yo, check this. if you have a hosting plan that gives you, say, 2 domains included – can you have 2 different websites running from the same hosting?
eg.
www.websiteone.co.uk &
www.websitetwo.co.ukwith completely different content, all hosted on the same 'plan'?
