I am brain dead right now from school work. I need some ideas (ie. possible topics) for the following project:
"Problematize a media text, state your criticism, and reconstruct it accordingly.
(1) Find a piece of media discourse or text (a newspaper items, a TV show, a movie, a website, a set of ads, event, editorials, video clips, TV election campaigns, comics, ads, video games, and so on) that you can problematize and criticize.
(2) Explain in detail what the problems are with that media text. Your criticism should meet two criteria: relate to the language, images and the overall design and production of the text."
I just need ideas for (1). Obviously (2) is my job. Something that can be dissected and is interesting.
For example, one of my friends is going to analyze the advertisements on cereal boxes (aimed at children).
Thanks.

problematize? Fuck me! Why don’t we synergize it with the back-end going forward, then get a helicopter view?

what about this site?

You could find some piece of media discourse which uses words like “problematize” and criticise that. Discuss how distorting the language instantly puts the reader in a confused, subservient position – eg, how can you be expected to answer a question confidently and succinctly, when half the words in it are made up?

i also couldnt get past 'problematize'... i know what its supposed to mean but i just end up staring at it and trying to pronounce it in such a way that maybe it will become familiar... but no, its a horrible 'word' and your teacher should be stabbed in the neck
- I know! My brain is not computing this information. Damn it.Jaline
