groovy clock and a 1024 layout.

I like being able to move stuff around, but everythings quite big n chunky. Love the clock though.

Going to take a bit of getting used to, but I like it!
Is it just the home page they are changing?
- kalkal0
i was kinda hoping they'd at least update the news section to reflect the design changes before doing this, it feels like a right old messy mish mash now.

they've made some huge improvements in the last couple months with the beta... I'm still not crazy about this stuff, seems quite gimmicky and not terribly useful... but whatever // more power to the users right? I mean, the world doesn't need more designers telling them how something should be...

its good but im not a fan of how large the text is, fair enough its accessible but i almost miss the large amount of content.
the colour changes throught the day.
If you use something pageflakes, igoogle or netvibes then its old news.aimed at the average net user in my opinion.

I love the clock, the green goblin style,
But sorry
it looks too much like CNN,

This is good.

I like the functionality, even if it seems a bit for its own sake, but I hate the 2.0 look - I don;t see where it marries in with the BBC's branding at all.

still not feeling this site after the 1.5 years this design has been floating around.
i really think they could have done much better and it feels like they settled for this design. too bad. oh, and the clock (if in fact that is the best part and 'sold it' to some) is basically worthless....aside from a visual stimulation. even though it is supposed to be a functional item.
- The clock's a traditional BBC icon - all the way down to the slight recoil on the second hand. But I getcha.detritus
- probably the clock used before emission starts?Corvo
- right, i understand. i just do not think it is very useful at all.madirish
- In olden days, yes - now we have 24 hour coverage or Ceefax taking us through the cold & lonely dark of the night.detritus
- additionally, it is only an iconic brand element to those inside UK no doubt; whereas this site is not- its reach is far greater.madirish
- And, don't forget - silly wee gimmicks like this still blow the tiny minds of the plebians.detritus
- thus, not requiring or leveraging a brand value w/in a great % of users.madirish
- totally true dude on the 'wee trick' part...madirish

For the BBC, I think it's quite a leap forward.
I can see it confusing the hell of anyone over 50 though.

WAIT-
this is ONLY a homepage design and does not roll into any other pages??!?
LOL- wow....... this is going to go over great. aka- Southwest Airlines procedure they took tons of heat for and lost users/sales.
- I'd assume there's a phased redesign going on somewhere, the guardian did the same thingkelpie
- so bad....madirish
- let's not get hysterical now - of course they will roll out to the other pages. ever heard of a phased roll-out?vespa
- except the guardian design is goodmimeartist
- rafalski0
That's a classic. They will run the old inner layout for ages.
- moth0
It will be rolled out eventually I guess.
- Stugoo0
anyone sent this to thier parents/grandparents for an acid test?
- yeah my gran printed it off and faxed it back to me....said it was finemaximillion_
- ha ha!JerseyRaindog
- only *your* gran would have a fax machine handy undo, only yourskelpie

The clock I remember from my youth and is a nice addition, but it's basically just eye candy.
Personally I’ve never used the bbc homepage I just jump to the sub section I need so it's not really going to affect me. However for people that do I think the inconsistency will be an issue. I really like some of the page designs they have (tv, radio1, etc) and don't really see why they didn't go with something a bit more fitting.

I don't know why you people are moaning so much about this redesign, ok it's very different now, but is not that bad.
Maybe it's because the shock, which i can understand.
I really like it, seems quite nice and balanced on the eye (well, apart that punchy chamaleon) and do its job pretty well. The only problem i see is that, since they are giving the user the chance to choose which color to use, they're giving up using the color as a design element.
