I was exporting a couple of press ready pdfs out of illy and I noticed it wasn't really translating the blacks at all. I would open them up after in acrobat and it would be a bit washed out grey looking. Is there some option I am missing?

add 40% cyan to your black in illy

that just made it look like a dark blue though

search "rich black"... the formula is up for debate.

run your eps through Distiller

also in AI prefs you'll see there is a tab for "appearance of blacks".. make sure both are set to "accurate" otherwise what you're seeing in AI could be off.

I can never tell which is more accurate, illy or PDF view. It bugs the shit out of me. I think I have something great in Illy, then I see it in PDF and it looks like garbage... all desaturated & shit.
60 40 40 100 is good.

It's the "appearance of blacks" preference that horton pointed out which makes blacks look washed out when viewing outside illy.
Question for all you 40-20-20-100 (and similar) people: do you use these formulas when printing offset? Do you use 4-color black for text? Doesn't it piss off your printers?
