A few years have gone by now and i was wondering, does anyone remember when the papers were saying Ronaldo had to go because of getting Rooney sent off???
I think the media.. have been embarrassed, there is no way on earth, ferguson would chose Rooney over Ronaldo.. anyone hate the Rooney hype?

Big fan of Rooney myself. Rooney and a Carlos Teves prove to me that they are more effective then say a Christiano Ronaldo or a Nani type.

hahahaha... are you sure?? just take a look how many goals ronaldo has scored, ye its not just about that... ronaldo actually set up rooneys 2 goals yesterday, ronaldo is the greatest player in the world.. rooney is average.

A lot of the hype around Rooney was misguided, because he was never really a goalscorer. He's a productive player, though. When you have two scrappy forwards like Rooney and Tevez, it makes Ronaldo's life a lot easier.

what i dont understand is then.. what player is rooney if he is not a striker?
ronaldo is not not a striker.. stil bangs them in, making runs from his own half
- lukefry0
ahahha, i knew sum1 would say that... rooney is the biggest hype ive ever heard, jesus i remember when they said he was the next pele haha! surely you have to score goals

In my opinion Ronaldo is a quality player, his stats prove that. But he should also be struck hard with a blunt object because he is an cheating arse.
Rooney is class, he does more than score goals, granted he is a striker so should be bangin them in. He isn't at the moment, but look at his season stats, 15 goals, 10 in the league. I'd have a striker who can score that many goals in a season.
When Ronaldo is striking 15-20 goals EVERY season then he can be classed as good as pele or whatever. This season could very well be a fluke. Only takes a couple of bad games to knock a strikers confidence, and looking at the united stats at the mo, they would be crippled if he dropped his form.

Rooney deserved to be sent off in that game, if you stamp on sum1s balls on a football pitch, as a pro, what do you expect, plus Ronaldo was scoring stupid amounts last season as well, he's only going to get better.. Rooney's season stats are terrible for a supposedly world class player

lukefry – Don't you think you are comparing apples and oranges a bit?
- lukefry0
naa, just everytime i watch a football program involving man utd, Wayne Rooney is ahead of ronaldo. . advert for Man U vs Roma, what they doin at the end?? they show rooney, with crowd chanting his name...
Grand slam Premier league sunday, every single player advertised on there poster, was english... rooney at the front, not a mention of ronaldo... i think the english are in there own world

Dear god, this is possibly the most pointless thread in the world! Why am I writing here? I can't stop! I'm City fan helping prove Rooney is a world class player and Ronaldo is a tit!
Rooney = all round player, fights for the ball, can actually tackle and will do everything expected of him.
Ronaldo = Dancing tart who can't win a ball. Can run very well with the ball and has great positioning play. Reason why City beat United twice? Just surrounded Ronaldo don't let him run. You take the ball off him, he will either give up or bring you down. Not the sign of a world class player in my book.
- Much as he's a cock, I'd have Ronaldo in my team any day and I support Arsenal.jamble
- Agreed, but the law states that as a Man City fan and an English man I have to berate him.Rincks
- As a gooner I shouldn't like him either but he's turned into a good player.jamble
- Rooney looks good in flashes but he's not consistent enough and overhyped.jamble

Man not a bad problem to have. We don't even get all the soccer here in America. Damn Fox Sports!
- lukefry0
give rooney the ball and he'll put it over the bar, and i can assure you theres alot more point threads on here than this one..

SO how many of Ronaldos goals has Rooney set up? How many of all the goals Man U have scored that Rooney set, I would say a lot...
Don't get me wrong Ronaldo is fantastic I just can't believe you are giving him this much credit for a high goal count
- mistermik0
rooney should stick to banging grannies.
- Rincks0
Quote : "all rooney does, is tackle, and im very sure, ronaldo has setup half of man utd goals... man utd dont need rooney, sell him, get torres"
Stupidest comment of the year award goes to you... well done.
While you're at it why don't you just sign Messi and maybe get Nistelrooy back and sod it, every striker that's having a good season?
You do realise united haven't won a game Rooney has missed all season? If you think that all Rooney does is tackle.... you are an idiot

Guys – You are comparing too totally different players. A Center Striker, and a right Winger attacking have two way different playing styles based off the needs of Sir Alex Ferguson. You can't compare the two because there is so many different priorities these two have on the pitch.
First in Argument of Wayne Rooney: If Wayne isn't as physical in the center, blocking the view of the goalie, taking on two marks of defenders by himself, finally causing holes for people like Christiano Ronaldo to have room to run, Manchester United would be in serious trouble. Look at the first couple games of the season, or I can pull examples from last season ( The loss to Portsmouth with two games left to go in the championship run! *embarassed face*) With out this force, Christiano Ronaldo would not have the freedoms he has now to really play both in a striking position on the right side, and to go all the way back into deep midfield to assist.
The same goes the other way. If Christiano Ronaldo does not have position both in the midfield, and up on the striking front, Rooney will not have the ball to shoot at all. Why I like Christiano Ronaldo on the team for Man United is because he can dominate a midfield with no problems, and can either score from distance for himself, or will make sure the ball is at Tevez or Rooney's feet. But you must see they both would suck if they didn't have each other doing their job well. There are not many like them.
Actually introducing Carlos Tevez to the team I think hurt them because he has a familiar form similar to Rooney, and there is too much moving around on our attacking front that the chemistry has been weak. I would give Man United 3 years to get back up to international playing dominance with this line up. We have a rather young midfield, and too many choices for strikers. ( Don't forget Saha)

man u probably has the best strike force. it's sickening how good ronaldo is this season. three of them combined makes man u dangerous.
