So how much do people pay attention to the mechanicals?
Obviously, this is entirely subjective (do you care about the authenticity and artwork for a Ferrari V12 or do you just want to go 0-60 as fast as possible, in which case a Mustang is just fine).
I've been reading a lot on how Bell&Ross uses off the shelf generic mechanicals, as almost everyone below $3k does. So you are paying purely for the design with a MASSIVE markup, vs. something like a Omega Seamaster that has a new, quality, proprietary movement.
Just curious if anyone pays attention to this on here (I was shocked to learn that most companies, like B&R, are just design watches).
- people pay for the apple logo too, then defend it with so much pridealbums

^ Mechanical watches are only worth it to people that appreciate the work that went into them. And of course they can live longer than you if you keep up with the maintenance. Most mechanical watches you cant even see the movement unless they have a clear case back so its hard for many people to appreciate whats in them.
Im a sucker for things that real love went into. I have an Omega Planet Ocean and even though I cant see whats inside of it, I know its in there and is a small miracle of human ingenuity.
You can get a good looking watch that tells time more accurately than a mechanical watch for $50, so its all about appreciating the work that went into that makes them worth it to you.

I thought that even Omega used generic parts also.
I was told that Seiko are the only company that make absolutely everything by themselves (even the lubricant for the movements is their own doing, I was told).
- Omega has their own in house movement now. Its not cheap.CygnusZero4
- This is why their average watch went from about 3k to 6k. Plus the new ceramic bezels...CygnusZero4
