There is NO SUCH THING as Eco Friendly design, period.
• When you use energy to (design, products, and or services)
• Use resources to create (design, products, and or services)
• Travel to buy (design, products, and or services)
• Spend Money on (design, products, and or services)Consume, Consume, Consume, The American way!
- its not about stop designing. its about doing a better way.akrokdesign

It's not easy being a graphic designer and having a conscience at the same time. If you are pushed for time, stressed to the eye balls and really letting your work rule your life you will inevitably end up cutting corners.
I guess the best way around this is to be organised, have a routine and be consistent.
Im yet to find a design company who solely advertise the fact they are eco-friendly (even though we know its technically impossible to be completely)... and you lot are saying everyone's doing it. I think it's just a feeling we have because everyone's going on about it, but nobodies really doing it.

utopian.
You make a valid statement, but sustainable design does exists, and it means to think in the future. Instead of designing with your consumer in mind, start designing with the landfill in mind, how can you as a designer, prevent your products to end up in the landfill.Yes, the way from your design in illustrator to the the box at the consumer's house is very long, and everyone needs to do their part (with in most cases won't happen, so even if your orange juice pack is made out of corn and its 100 compostable, it may end up in the trash anyways.
Eco-friendly design is the first step that should be attempted to reduce unnecessary trash, reduce production numbers to match consumer demands, as opposed to just mass produce.
Yes, its a problem of consumption, but if you can reduce the impact just a little bit, then you are helping. its small but is something.

are there any more design studios that base themselves on green and/or ethical values?

detritus is on the ball with this. sustainable design is just good design and should be part of what you do.
also, if it is just part of what you do you should be able to rise out the next green backlash.
- Meeklo0
akrok, I agree, there are a lot of companies jumping on the green wagon, just because it is now a selling point. And that is confusing cause they advertise "buy this, is green" but in the end you are asking the customer to "consume" to solve a "consumption problem"
This girl at inhabitat said on an interview. You think you would solve a big part of this buy buying a hybrid car, but in reality is not about buying a new car, but how you can use your current one less.

One Agency called Thoughtful that do not have a letterhead, business card, etc... printed they printg it B+W from their printer.

Just do it without rattling on about it. It's tired to boast about it.

I don't know that being eco-friendly should really be a selling point, it should be something you try and do as a matter of course.
I know a lot of companies these days do sell on their "green-ness" but I don't think it's something you should focus your entire business marketing on.
- yes!
usually people that advertise it, only do it for the wrong reasons.Meeklo
- yes!
- Ianbolton0
I agree.
I have bought the name Treehouse Collective and hope to build from that. Thoughtful is such a good name though.Suppose it's easy to just sit around working for other people and complain when they don't have the same visions as yourself. Getting out of that routine and doing things for yourself is a big step!
