The U.S. government paid more than $1.7 million in defense contracts over the last decade to companies owned by leaders of Warren Jeffs' polygamous sect -- with tens of thousands allegedly winding its way back to Jeffs and his church.
In fact, some of the deals were made after Jeffs was named to the FBI's "Most-Wanted List" and remained in place while he was on the run.

love it or leave it, hyuk, hyuk, hyuk.
- TResudek0
What percentage of the defense budget do you suppose that is?
- ornj0
. <- this much
- flashbender0
factor out the fact that he's a polygamist cult leader and you still have the US government giving 1.7 million to someone on the FBI's most wanted list.
And I still have to take my fucking shoes off at the airport.
Genius.

the shoes off at the airport is for the illusion of security. that's all.
- I fully realize that. As are the $7/hr asshats waving wands around. That doesn't decrease my annoyance though.flashbender
- if you can convince people it's nessesary to scan shoes they'll be that much more willing to give up other things, a slippery slope.oozie

No, it's because those people want to sniff my feet.

It's all just an elaborate user study by Gucci to see what types of people are actually wearing their shoes. Nothing more.
- hahaha! That was clever and it made me laugh. I appreciate your humor.flashbender

quite honestly it's not a coindidence that he was getting defense contracts (no matter how large) and now all of sudden his polyigamy sect is busted and shouted all over the media. nothing in the media happens by accident and all of it, especially when it's so inbred and twisted a story, serves some sort of purpose. if you look at practically all of the cult busts in the last two decades in the usa they're always tied in someway to the cia or fbi combined with some media circus.
- Yeah, but keep in mind this is polygamist sect Round 2 - the first was the rape trial of Jeffs and others.flashbender
- +1 for the complete and total paranoia, that thanks to the Bush administration, sounds plausible.TheBlueOne
- this stuff was being talked about before bush but 911 has sparked a bunch of interest in conspiracyoozie

These contracts are awarded by some 40+ CO who has a checklist of criteria price, classification etc... that bidding companies have to meet. If they meet enough of them then they are usually awarded the contract. They don't know who's associated with who when awarding these projects.
- oozie0
i'm perfectly aware of their bidding on contracts etc. even they said they don't include religious affiliations in their bids but dude was obviously known to the government and related agencies so it's not that far a leap of logic to conclude he was known to be associated with these companies. someone somewhere along the line saw an opportunity to exploit the mormon sect thing at this opportune time. my point is that if there wasn't a reason to spread it all over the media at this point in time it wouldn't have, the defence contracts are absolutly suspicious in this context but they'll viewed as a 'waste of tax payers money' not an obvious point of connection. i'm not paranoid but these things simply aren't as they appear on the surface. that guy is likley a bonafied shill...but conspiracy is all good entertainment these days anyway.

i still say 600k is more than one man's share...
... huh?... wait...

I'm just saying these were companies owned by Warren Jeffs he was probably not listed as CEO, president or Point of Contact. The people awarding contracts saw the company and the POC and based their decision on that I doubt they even knew about Warren Jeffs ( the CO that is) and 1.7million over a decade is not much these were probably smaller contracts awarded at the end of the year when they have to spend up to their budget
- Oh and Fuck him and his ideas in case there was any confusion on whether I supported him.voiceof

How else was Jeffs going pay his attorneys?

Warren was hired to keep all of those terrorist-based polygamist cults out of the U.S. His crack team also did their best to get all of the ugly girls married off and out of the bars at 2 AM.
I thought he was doing a good job.
