by chance I talked to a friend last week who manufactures parts for apple and others in asia. Asked him about the new MBPs, all he said is it's going to be a little while, they've got some engineering problems they are working through right now. I've been waiting for a while and I'm gonna just pick one up, if the new one is that much better, i'll sell mine and update, but i cannot wait any longer.

Bump -
Anyone heard anything more about new Mac Book Pros being released?

i recommend a used macbook pro 15", then when the new ones come out and you like it then buy that one too and then you have the latest greatest and a spare backup laptop. I would also recommend getting the fastest, largest hardrive possible. Could always resell the used one that you can find on craigslist for around $600

the laptop of tomorrow isn't going to do the job that needs to be done today

7200 runs too hot in my opinion without that much gain in performance. I'd rather have a bigger drive at 5400 rpm than the slight increase in speed.
You need more than 512 MB of RAM, just don't buy it from Apple. Get it at http://crucial.com and max it out.
- I just noticed you were talking about video ram, yes 512. Leopard loves your video card.yaphi

might be different in the u.k. in the state the 15" 2.5GHz already comes with the 512 graphics card. and its only 50 bucks for the 7200 rpm upgrade.

it sucks, but everytime you buy a new computer or ipod, there is a newer model being released.. who here never went through that?
if you want top of the line, get a dell, they never really update and if they do, no one keeps track of it :)
- Meeklo0
yeah, there is no need to have the last one, if you need to make bills now, you need a computer to work on. when (and if) the new comes out, and it really has something worth the update then you can sell it.
a new computer is only new for a few months, so if you depend on having the last one to do work, then from a business point of view, you are going to take a big hit.
my 2 cts

You will need the 512 graphics card for gaming under windows... if you dare to install it...
I have a 2.2 ghz and it runs like hell...

update? i got mine a month ago...

I doubt a 24inch'er will be in the package, not that portable really is it...?
Have a look through the sites and comments. It may well be a move into line with the New iMac and the Air:

What does a re-package involve do you think? Maybe a 24 inch macbook pro?

Wait until after the WWDC...
What is worse – waiting another month, or getting pissed off 'cause you just bought something that has been replaced?
- YAYPaul0
Mactactic are saying 4 months till an update release.

I would recommend the 7200 RPM drive, but battery life can be shit w/ it.

4 times in the last 9 or so years does not constitute as "ALWAYS" in my book
- dconstrukt0
dude, they"re ALWAYS releasing new stuff.... if you get like that you'll always be waiting for the next one to come out.
- this is a re-package though, not just a speed bumpDancer

Damnit I was almost sold... can I wait another month...
Don't they do some kind've deal whereby you can return your mac if they release another model within a month or something?
