I have a photo of a ceramic tile from which I need to create a pattern and then overlay that pattern over another photo. My question is, how do I create a pattern in such a way that it doesn't look like the same ceramic tiles is repeated?
btw, I'm using PS.

meaning you want each tile to vary slightly?

let me get this straight, you want to use the same tile repeated, but you don't want it to look like you are using the same tile repeated.

create a new brush
- with several variations of the tile within one brush arealvl_13
- that will still look like a pattern though. better to just change some of the tiles randomly afterwards.skt
- and then mess with the brush setting (ie. shape dynamics, color dynamics, jitter)lvl_13
- true skt. see my previous note though. that may work.lvl_13

I'm with skt on this one.

skt's suggestion it is, thanks

perspective grid, then overlay a layer of noise and a gradient to simulate lighting. you can also fuck with the lighting effects filter, or lens blur if you are trying to achieve any type of depth.

or you could put several unique tiles into a block and turn the block into a pattern swatch

I actually created a pattern from the tile, then cut smaller pieces of it, rotated them, flpped them, etc so it looks like the same product was used but not the exact same tile.

exactly what i was saying :D

Yea this was more of a thought process as opposed to implementation... you're still tiling.

luckily it's a small patch that i have to cover with said pattern. It would suck to do this for a large area. I wonder how 3d artist do this.

post what you made here, chap!
