"Ex-Bear Stearns fund managers plead not guilty
NEW YORK (Reuters) - The two former hedge fund managers at failed investment bank Bear Stearns who were arrested early on Thursday have entered pleas of not guilty in Brooklyn federal court.
The two men, Ralph Cioffi and Matthew Tannin, appeared before Magistrate Judge Steven Gold to face conspiracy and securities fraud charges following a federal probe into the collapse of funds they oversaw.
Cioffi's bail was secured by a $4 million bond, guaranteed by residences in Tenafly, New Jersey, and Naples, Florida. Tannin's bail was secured by a $1.5 million bond, guaranteed by his Upper West Side apartment in New York. Both men's wives also appeared in court to accept the bail conditions."
This says a lot about our current judicial system. Our prayers go out to them.

My profoundest of sympathies. It's a terrible thing to lose a home. Three, I could only imagine.

What exactly does this say about the U.S. judicial system? Seems to be working in this case... Are you suggesting they shouldn't be held liable?

I'm saying that criminalizing these hedge fund managers for market changes that result from free market forces and participants is injustice.
- true, but they're still bastards.doesnotexist
- now hedge is a lawyer too? lol. stick to the stock market.nearestexit
- oh, and the real injustice is that more of these folks are going to jail. but give it time.nearestexit

Well, the pending trial will determine whether they can be considered criminals; conspiracy and securities fraud suggests actions beyond free market forces.
I think there is a fear that they are getting scapegoated.
