So I happened to catch her Glastonbury set last night on the Beeb. I thought she did a good job. I saw this moment http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/enter… and I hardly think it qualifies as a lead international story on the bbc news website (I know, I know, complain to the Beeb, not here). But it does go to show the ridiculous media coverage she gets.

A few years ago at a family party, the topic of conversation was about music and it had got onto talking about the likes of Pete Doherty.
My grandad took the stance that the tabloids had painted of Pete - stating he was a no good junkie etc. My little brother who works in the music industry has met pete a number of times, interviewed him and even jammed with him - was trying to explain to my grandad that yeah he's a junkie but he's also an extremely creative, clever, passionate and caring person.
Any Libertines of Babyshambles fans will be able to tell you about when they met pete or the party they went to after the gig and pete was there - he always has time for his fans. How many other stars have that?Anyway, so my grandad wasnt that impressed with my brother trying to persuade him away from his tabloid views.
My brother asked him "what kind of music do you like? - who is your favourite musicians?"
To which my grandad replied "Old jazz, music like Billie Holiday"
My brother came back with "grandad - she was a heroin addict"
and infact the whole jazz scene in the early part of the century was rife with heroin and opium.SO the question is, are you slating Winehouse for being a junkie?
In which case you'd have to lump Billie Holiday, Chet Baker, Tim Buckley, Sonny Clark etc in with her.- these are obviously good, christian, clean living times.lowimpakt
- exactly. But there's also a difference between flaunting that lifestyle to the public (or at least not avoiding pictures)Jaline
- Pete Doherty did seem like a harmless, creative boy during interviews, but I can't separate him from drugs.Jaline
- Babyshambles, appropriate name for such a disaster of a bandmodern

I have a feeling that if she stays alive for a few more years while continuing her current lifestyle I will have her next to Keith Richards as people who have defied the laws of science.

haha wont it be really funny if some of you have friends or family who turn to drugs or booze. You'll be able to tell to them to fuck off and die and you'll feel really good about that - knowing that your wife/brother/son/daughter got what they deserve.

'Mitch Winehouse'

Her Dad is such a fucking attention whore. He's the real cunt.

Someone who smokes a variety of Stuff has some lung damage.
So... this really qualifies as news?

Serious question...no, seriously. Do f*cked up men get the same attention? Did Scott Weiland have a death watch thread? I'm just wondering if famous men tend to be labeled crazy bad boys and women crazy c*nts?
- I agree, keith richards enjoys an almost saintly status as a monumental drug user.mrdobolina

She brought it on herself. She has no amount of self-control. I save my sympathy for decent folk who get serious illness through no fault of their own.

not a surprise....

it would have been funnier if you phrased it as a question

mg33, I get what you are saying, but, if you forget her drug issue, her music is actually a good thing for our generation. For example, I know a lot about music today but practically nothing about music before the 80s. So hearing her music is fresh to me. You may say this is unfortunate, but it could get other people to go back and listen to that older music, or unknowingly enjoy something (her music) that is heavily influenced by past music (and maybe they will find out one day). Her voice is very good when compared to many other artists out there.
Of course, it's difficult to forget her personal issues. The people who can't separate her music from her personal life will most likely dislike her and/or her music.
- I agree with everything Jaline..Meeklo
- except the part about her music being good.Meeklo
- lol
people have their tastes.omgitsacamera - right place right time, she is average. Nothing special.morilla
- I am indifferent to her music. I have one or two of her songs, but her pieces are not things I particularly care about.Jaline

Don't care much, sorry. When you decide to do that to yourself, I have no much respect or sympathy.

i don't sympathize much either, not sure if that justifies a celebration or aggressive comments though omgitsacamera.
- She pissed a lot of people off with her racist video thing in her crack den, that's probably whyismith

i cant stand celebrities like amy winehouse and pete doherty not just because they're wasting their talents but because of how much they get away with. doherty has appeared in court millions of times and has had to do very little punishment where anyone else would be serving lengthy prison sentences.. they make an absolute mockery of the british law and the millions of people who abide by them.
they sing a good song or two and all of a sudden they're above the law and everyone else. makes me sick
also makes me sick that a publicised drug problem can actually boost a singer's career.. being in the headlines is free marketing no matter what reason.. used to be a problem in the boardsports industry too, snowboarders and surfers with massive drink/drug problems were marketing gold for some companies (world industries for example). you ever hear abot that snowboarder in the whiskey videos who finally went sober after years of battling the bottle, losing his wife and family and everything else, then his sponsors (world industries) dropped him cos they didnt know how to market him anymore?
sometimes the injustice is too much
