I want to make sure I am getting my translation right of a phrase for a tattoo. I am having my first girl in a couple days, and I want to include some good ole latin in the piece. I went to one of those word translators, and I want to confirm that it is giving me the right translation. I know that sometimes it translates words independant of one another, and not as a phrase. In some cases a phrase is translated differently. So, that said, can anyone help me out?

Well just write it out what do you want said on your tattoo..

First girl or First Baby is supposedly translated into latin as follows: primoris infantia

Sweet readyok, I got some latin on my chest last summer...

The main point is, I want the phrase "First Child" or "First Baby" to be translated to Latin, but I want to make sure it is conjugated for a female, so I dont have people who know latin see my tattoo and ask my why I named my little boy Ella.

primus or first born primigines
- Iggyboo0
btw congrats

So, just primigines would mean first born girl?
When I search google with that word, it comes back with no real results. Can you explain how you arrived at that translation? Thanks btw. I just want to make sure since this is going to be inked on my arm forever.
- Iggyboo0
no from my understanding primigines means first born.

I have no idea how to say first born girl. It has to be a tense thing though. Because in latin the way they end words us is for boy a is for girls and es if its gender neutered. I am pretty sure of that.
- Iggyboo0
you'd have to consult an expert this one is a tense thing and I can't figure it out. good luck.

go to a college, there might be some latin courses there, you could ask a student for a translation?

Funny, I was just wondering the other day what the Latin for "good design" is. I couldn't find the noun for "design" in my crappy little Latin dictionary or online. Anyone?
- there wasn't a name for it then. Italian "disegno" as an independent practice only occurred in 1600.Corvo
- Yeah, I figured as much, but I also figured that we'd have a neo-Latin term for it by now.dog_opus
- maybe there is. design means "planning".Corvo
- prob is "designo" = mark out, describe. define upon purpose. still used in portuguese = desÃgnio = goal.Corvo
- like the dictionary def of "designation" in English.Corvo
- Thanks, Corvo!dog_opus

I know little of Latin but I think the better sentence is:
[name*] filia primogenita .
* if you can translate her name into Latin the phrase will look better, like:
Constantia filia primogenita <- that means Constance was the first-born child and was female.

Not fond of tattoos myself, but at least you're looking for some inscription worth carving in stone. Props to you readyok.
