40 min. to 1 hour, one way.
(for both current place of work and previous school; school this year will be just 20 minutes away).
Express bus pass is around $70 per month, so $840 per year.
(You can add this to your taxes and get some money back).

I commute into NYC everyday. Takes about 35 minutes and cost $168 per month and then $81 per month for the metro card. Moving into the city soon so i can replace that cost with overpriced rent

1.5 miles from work. Cycle or drive, then get on a ferry boat to cross the river. Passenger ticket is 70p one way. Takes about 15mins door to door if the ferry isn't on the other side of the river.
Work from home when I want to.

usually 10 mins a day, which includes having a shower as I work from home... was working off site for a few weeks going from east to west (shepherds bush) and that was around 3 hours a day (which got me down, especially as shepherds bush underground shut for a year or something the week before i started so had to walk from holland park) also did some in soho which was about 1.45 and not nearly as bad

2 minutes, I don't bother with a shower until the afternoon. It's a short walk from my bed to my desk.

haha, if we're including showers as part of the commute it takes me nearly twice as long.

36 miles a day 4 times a week
33 mpg
at a cost of $4.50 a gallon that works out to $80/month

I used to have 7min commute, now its 45min - 1 hour depending on traffic, but I have more money, I think.

I spend AU$22 a week ($1,144 yr) commuting.
It takes 15-20 minutes to get to the city via bus, I live 6kms from the city.
I work 9-5 but also freelance so about 10% of my work from home.

i used to do bus - train - subway journey for 2 hours twice a day and costs about £130 a month. now I drive, its less time, more money. Cant work out whch i preferred - someone else driving so I could sleep - Or going by my own timetable and having my own space...

40 miles each way...
Doesn't help that I drive a Ford Taurus... I don't even look at the Gas prices at this point. I completely ignore it.
Actually one of the reasons I am looking for a job in NYC where it would only be a quick train trip across the Hudson.

i generally freelance for three different companies (2 design studios + 1 tv station) . all within walking distance. varies from 5min to 40min walks. during winter, add 10-20 minutes.
i could take cabs or metro to go to work but i hate standing/sitting still for a long time forced to smell other people. besides, money i save off comune is the money i spend on smokes.

London: 48 minutes each way if the trains/tube are running properly. Otherwise, it's about 1hr and 20min each way.
A Zone 1-3 Oyster travelcard costs me £132 (US$260)
Worst I ever had was a 2 hour drive each way from Hoboken NJ to Bedminster NJ up I-78. Most dangerous road I've ever been on!

Going to an interview where I would have to drive 30 each way(30-40 mins). I have always avoided jobs where my commute would be more than say 15min... so needless to say, I have never done it. What sucks about it? Is there good things to it?

$40/mo. and 40 minutes by subway
or
$0.00 and 40 minutes by bikedepends on weather/mood/hangover
- and i moved here to avoid driving all together, its starting to look like what i need to do to workrefunktion
- I realized I'd rather commute 40 minutes by train or bike than 20 minutes by car. Rush hour traffic is the worst.scenek

refunktion,
Listen here.
I commute approximately 1 hr each way, 5 days a week. Typically this amounts to 2-2 1/2 hours a day on the road (depending on traffic). If i can do this day in, day out, you can certainly pull 30-40 minutes.
Now sure, some of you might think i'm crazy. But I actually enjoy where I live very much. I'm literally out in the sticks. Actually I couldn't imagine living anywhere else. And a longer commute more than justifies living where I do.
However, gas is getting ever more costly. I can squeeze my 2007 ford focus for about 34-36 MPG when I drive like a gas nazi and this will typically get me back and forth 4 days a week. Gassing up the tank is roughly $25, more when the price goes up. In the summer/middle of winter my MPG is significantly lessened due to running of AC / Heat.
Anyway, I just wanted to say. Quit bitching and buck up and drive or move closer.

lol, thanks d_rek.... interesting perspective. how often do you hit traffic out there?
- d_rek0
Well I commute from the sticks to the city. Generally traffic rolls right along until I get close to the city - If i didn't have to deal with the fucking idiots on the interstate near the city then that would shave 15-20 min from my drive easy. It's mostly highway driving until I get right downtown, or on days when traffic is too bad, i'll take side-streets down.
- But the idea of 'traffic' where I live is an old fart going under the speed limit :Dd_rek
- lol @ old fart.refunktion
