..thinking of applying for a few jobs, which leads me to - How do you negotiate on such a thing?
Any experience/advice people want to share?
Thanks,

When I went for a job interviews in the past and when they said: "So what do you expect in regards to wadges" I would says give me an offer, in that way if they offer you a low number you don't have to take it, where as if you as wanted 30k for example and they where willing to give you 35k then they will go with your offer and save 5k see what I mean?

I don't think it's unreasonable to ask them first what the salary range is once you've discussed what you can bring to the job and your level of experience.

I've got the salary, it's dependable on experience, I need at least 23k to get by and the top is 25k (GBP).

this is going to sound really cheezey, ...but a guy Brian Tracy has an audio book on negotiating exactly that. Might be worth searching your fav p2p... I found it valuable
- hmm, fair enough!Mojo
- K more of a short mp3 than an audiobook, & only cheezey cos hes one of those motivational white teeth guysblackspade

You could try writing down what you want on a piece of paper and ask your interviewer to do the same. Swap, then agree to split the difference.
That way neither of you can adjust your numbers based on the others response.
- haha, genius idea - but perhaps not the best interview game!Mojo
- If you write £25k and they write £15k you're fucked.jamble

- true, but the upper figure is public.Mojo
- It it's that low, you don't accept the job. Simple.monoboy

if the job is going to be helping produce nice work for the folio, i would be happy taking a slightly lower salary, where as if its just pumping out whatever they think is 'good design' in their untrained eyes, then im going to want to get well paid for that shit.... :)
- by this i mean the employer telling you what to do... even though they may not have any design experienceantoine_101

Yes, perhaps - but I know for a fact that I could go in there and say this this and this and get 22k or go in there and say this, this and this and get 25k. I think there are things you can do it to maximise your salary.
That 5k difference is an extra 300quid netted per month.

A guy at my place just went freelance then came back here to work, on a day rate, freelance but with work every day. Extra 10k per year, no responsibilities, time off when he needs it etc.
I'll be asking for a big raise this year then!
- nice.Mojo
- Grow some balls and go freelance yourself then...babaganush
