Anyone else agree that istock has become too costly for its members and getty went over board and made it really expensive? If I was a photographer I'd be kinda upset at the rates too.. Istock used to be the lower end now its trying to make itself the bridge between getty and the lower end. I will still use it for vector but even that is becoming too expensive..

what a bunch of bastards...

Have the rates changed?

Getty is the Wal-Mart of stock photography

20 dollars for a 11x17 high res photo is real expensive?
- 20 dollars for a photo that used to cost 3 dollars is 17 dollars more than what it used to cost.Iggyboo

Last year I bought 100 credits for like 60 dollars with a coupon. and I would get about 3 credits to a 5mb image and the licensing was good for 250k repeats of use. Now the licensing is changed the average image costs 10 credits or 12.50$ usd for a damn photo and... the licensing is all screwy because it looks like getty has gotten in there and reduced reprintability on some of the photos. You gotta read the fine print. And the vector rules changed making it alot more prohibitive to use vector in or as a logo etc.

getty in getting massacred by fickr.com some of the worlds greatest, high resolution free photos!!! i worked at a fancy pants design shop in NY with a huge account and they told all the designers, "need an image, steal one from flickr"

Yea I worked at a big agency too. and its up to the designers to stop that shit. Because honestly It's not right to the photographers. That being said you should go out of your way to flickr and find those photographers and negotiate rates for specific images. That's much better than using getty and you can generally get them for a more affordable price then getty. and better terms.

Is usage only limited for print? There isn't a limit on web pageviews or anything like that is there?

everything go up in price. still much cheaper then big stock companies. you sound sad.
- Iggyboo0
And that idea of everything going up in price is illogical when looking at the rise of their cost. unless you think 200%+ inflation is reasonable in 2 years for piece of shoddy stock photography..

Not too costly for a photo but it is legitimate to be disapointed that IStock isn't what it once was.
