Has anyone developed an online branding style guide for their clients? If so, what did you use to run it - a CMS or Wiki software, or something else entirely?

you mean a website?

Yeah, an online alternative to a printed manual. Indexing of the pages, with all the relevant illustrations, information and file downloads.

why would they need to use a cms, you are writing the guidelines no?

Slappy > So it's easy to manage and to update.
Meffid > We love backpack here, and use it ourself, but it's a bit inflexible as a deliverable to a client.
I'm almost thinking indexhibit : http://www.indexhibit.org/
Set's up a simple nav tree on the left, pages on the right. Doesn't look like it would be too hard to style it up a little bit to match the general look and feel of our print style guides.

we used a wiki at real... just linked to a folder with an index.php file that spat out the contents.
also try indxr (was on front page of wbn not long ago), better looking than indexhibit.
