What kinds of things have you had to learn to keep relevant in your job?
Have your responsibilities changed? How did you adapt?

I've learned to make it easier to give people bad news, ie: project is off schedule, desired customization/functionality is out of scope or too expensive, site can't launch on time, stuff like that.
I have confrontation and bad news, but my boss kind of made me realize this: they're going to find out sooner or later, so just get it over with - tell them what you need to tell them and provide alternatives and options.

I think the hardest thing for me about work is finding the right things to stay relevant with. Once emerged in the industry there are plenty of new things to learn. I think learning how to chose what to learn has been the hardest thing...

I think I've realized how people with experience have a great responsibility to impart wisdom on others with little, and help guide them to make sure everything goes smoothly.

I started off doing just design/coding and now I do everything.

At my first and current job at a decent size agency I learned to tuck all my training, common sense and general ideas of whats right and wrong, right up my ass. That was pretty much day one. Going on day 900 or so, not much has changed...

Totally agree, Gucci.
Mentoring less experienced talent is a part of the cycle that seems to be missed in studios, sometimes. That said, there's a lot of art- and creative-directors out there that have lost touch with trends, or tech, or any number of other things.
Staying current is the hardest thing to learn, AND it's an ongoing process...

learned how to deal with people that think they can do my job, from starting out when people had no idea what the heck graphic design was.
- do tell. how DO you deal with people that can do your job...?Gucci
- *think they can, rather.Gucci
- Well, first learned how not to get upset, then learned how to explain to them them how they were wasting their time by trying to do it themselveslorac77
- to do it themselves and why it would be bad for their biznesslorac77
- As well as explaining to them why they are idiots for trying to design in photoshop when they shouldnt belorac77
- They seem to always refer to it as "the photo-shop?" like it's two words. Love that.Gucci

Keep yourself billable on as many client accounts as possible so that when you ask for more money once or twice a year you can qualify yourself.
Also, as a designer, think more strategically about client projects - knowledge of the clients budget/money is important.
Offer solutions that maximize profits - i.e. keep projects in house, if you can, working with available resources and talent.

More money, less micromanaging.
Lots more money.
