Isn't there a way to copy and paste something in IL but have it paste a specific distance from the original like 2 inches below for instance?
- marychain0
I dont think so. There is only paste or paste in front/back etc
I think you would have to make a blend and set the blend options to specified distance "2 inches"
I can't think of another way....maybe you can set the paste distance in the preferences somewhere?
- no need for blending , just use the smart positioning

like detritus said, use the paste in place option,
but then use the x/y coordinates in the top toolbar to move it a specified distance.
that's the most precise way, but not quite like you wanted.

you can move the original, duplicate it, then use the "transform again" option, which will move the new object the same as you did the first.

yes
- epete220
select your object, hold down the option key and drag your option the distance that you want it apart hit command d and it will duplicate that object for that distance as many times are you want

Command D is completely necessary and should be in all programs. But the move function is an every closer answer to what you want. you can even get the dialogue to come up if you have an object selected and you hit the enter key. I wish Flash was half as user-friendly as Illustrator.

mark object , press enter
window shows up, enter what distance you want to move it
press enter while holding alt

You can also double click on the selection tool while object is marked.. Brings up the same dialogue box.

@drgs_not_hugs
Pressing enter brings up the Move dialogue box with either of the selection tools. Fucking noob.

Doesn't seem anyone mentioned the following-
Paste in place, and then on the x/y from the transform panel or quick tool view, type in "-2" or "-2in" next to the current y value. if the y=0, type in "0-2"
- thecreativefire0
even easier than all this nonense. select your object. in the transform palette, in the x/y value type -2" or whatever distance you want. hold down the apple key and hit enter.
