Are we still limiting column widths to <80 chars or nah? I see a lot of (desktop) sites that run text as wide as the main body allows, no thought to line length/type size, probably out of fear of making someone *gasp* scroll.

Ironic.
So what's the solution here, one long narrow column regardless of window width, or multiple columns possibly forcing the user to scroll to the bottom of each column and back to the top of the next?

More than one column (in an 8.5x11" PDF) is officially "hard to read" I'm told.
