this is a safe move

No doubt this is a temporary move, still, great work and nice to see someone starting off at Form and making it.

I think it was Apple neue, I remember a thread via EC: where a few people accusing him of putting up work that wasn't truly his, basically he had iPhone packaging featured and a few people couldn't grasp the concept that a designer employed by Apple might have created the packaging, and also some work he had done at Spin, Madethought and again the idea that he might have worked on projects that are so familiar through the frequency of time they are published, and then about mid way through the thread his site had been removed.
Shame!
- after published it should read 'was hard to swallow'..., and then about...

It really pissed me off last time his stuff was up on here – the poor guy got a proper kicking for his hard-to-work-website, which is a bit short sighted.
He's a print designer, and has worked at companies most people on here only dream of working at, so why give him shit for his website?
Everyone wants to have a pop at someone.
Easy isn't it, sat behind your monitor artworking restaurant flyers, to have a go at someone who's got a bit of a profile.
- are you spying on me?PromotionalUseOnly
- well said dave, lots of negative joes that suck (kind of like me i suppose)jimzyk
- his website was shite!!skt
- only joking. i didn't mind it at all.skt
- anyway, who needs a nice website when you have a portfolio like his.skt
- pah, it was great his work was sweet toojimzyk
- Just fucks me off when people pull someone's work apart just because they're envious....DaveO
- I guess when the content is that good and he has clients as high profile as he does, more is expected of the presentation? I think thats fair.set
- ...think thats fair.set
- It is, but it's the old 'stones and glass houses' scenario. Put up or shut up etc.DaveO
- This goes back to the 'your opinion isn't valid unless your work is better' which is rediculous because other designers.......set
- designers are the last people that graphic design is actually aimed at.set
- That's a bit weak. You KNOW what I'm talking about.DaveO
- hmm, that was just my take on the 'Put up or shut up etc.' comment... Maybe I don't KNOW what your talking about...set
- jimzyk0
its a bit crazy that this shit happens.
thats what he gets for being so good, he should be mediocre and work for spar & asda.- We can all aspire to working for spar and asda. One day, one day.ian
- it would be a conflict of interest though i thinkPromotionalUseOnly
- I do work for ASDA. I wear that as a badge of honourkelpie

Hang on Dave. I seem to remember no one was slagging of the site per say. More "It is a shame that the site is not as well thought out as his work". I also seem to remember that his site was done by someone else.
Also, is it so wrong for people to form an opinion. I thought everyone was in agreement that his work was outstanding but the site design did not hold up to it.
- Dancer0
It gets me that as soon as someone says forms an opinion that is not "OMG it's amazing" they are branded "haters". It happened to a Build piece the other day. Someone said "hmmm not my bag" every jumped on him, pelted him with stones yelling "hater, hater, haterz".
I made a comment about Rob millingtons work the other day. It wasn't negative but I wasn't crawling up his arse – I am not a hater apparently....
Sorry dave this was no jibe at you, just a minor rant that I will get over.
- you been si-sipping on the hatorade bwoy...neue75_bold
- Yeah, max_p hooked me up.
I'm buzzin'!!Dancer
- mistermik0
what he needs is a xhtml, css, compliant website...
oh hang on - thats wrong.better to do than polish.
- if blind people can't read it, then it shouldn't be on the web. OMG, at least mine validates.skt
- haha would be easier if the blind just stayed off the interwebs.mistermik
- fuck you you pair of disablistskelpie
- my blog is in braille, sanskrit, ancient aramaic and morse code.kelpie
- sorry, could you speak up please, i didnae quite catch that/skt
- who said that?mistermik
- ..-. ..- -.-. -.- ..-, ..- -.-. ..- -. - ...kelpie
- DaveO0
Quite true Dancer – I can't find the original thread, but I can definitely remember a fair amount of nit picking.
And @ set – i don't think your distillation of 'your opinion isn't valid unless your work is better' is what I'm getting at.
I guess I just feel like people are happy to slate stuff they think isn't totally up to scratch......
- it was just in retaliation to the 'Put up or shut up etc.' comment which gives that impression...set
- there was loads of comments about the site being shit, but they were all from idiots, so...neue75_bold
- no matter how many times i read your middle paragraph its still makes no sensemistermik
- which post?
DaveO
- PromotionalUseOnly0
i personally liked the overlapping of the site, made it stand out from other portfolio sites... the old saying 'you need to know the rules to break them etc.' ... think the people that didn't like it, possibly didn't get it
- me too...neue75_bold
- I see your point but therefore is the site targeted at potential clients or fellow designers, who 'get it'?Dancer
- Exactly Dancer, a lot of designers seem to forget that we are the last people its aimed at.set
- (or should be aimed at)set
- but then we'd all end up doing web 2.0 logosPromotionalUseOnly
- it's not a matter of getting it, there's nothing to get, it's just a stylistic extension of his print work..neue75_bold
- there is if you don't realise it was intentional and not a mistake... like a few of the comments he gotPromotionalUseOnly
- I liked it, toomoamoa
- PromotionalUseOnly0
most people that contact me have a creative view on things... it is all about who you're trying to attract, rather than who you're trying to appease
- exactly...neue75_bold
- and given that he already has a job at apple, i'm pretty sure it was just for showing his work to his peers.skt
- neue75_bold0
- nice... would make a good website ;)PromotionalUseOnly
- the established and sons site uses this effect nicelyPromotionalUseOnly
- haha, nice find.Dancer
- Wasn't the original re-design of Grafik like this?Dancer
- PromotionalUseOnly0
pisses me off when people get attacked for doing something interesting with their site, when they say they should just show the work... I'm not a car designer, but i'd like a nice car
- PromotionalUseOnly0
it is the same as wanting to be number 1 in google... who'd you rather have looking at your site, people in the industry that will use you for a project, or the plumber who has googled you...
I've had SEO people bore me to death in the pub before about how important it is
- moamoa0
1. I loved his website
2. If he was involved in the projects he should be able to show the work / but he should explain what he really did.
3. this pisses me off, last year I worked for Dita van Teeste, Naomi Campbell, Mercedes, AMG, Bosch, and some more... and can I show the work? noooooo. thats not my problem, but why in the hell is the makeup artist allowed to mention it as a reference?- I think number 2 was the downfall somehowPromotionalUseOnly
- indeed, but this was somehow his mistakemoamoa

^ a freelancer of ours was just made to take his site down as he had put up a bunch of work without stating anywhere what his role was in the project (some design work) or what agency he was working for.
it was displayed in such a way as to infer he had completed it under his own name. he had also included work that was never approved by the clients and had edited trailer video of theirs.
we got utter shite from the client when they saw it.
