quick way to extract tables from a pdf and preserve formatting for indesign?

no stealing. redesign of old catalog. client provided a pdf and there are hundreds of tables.

should be able to just place the pdf file straight in, file > place

some need restyled. trying to preserve tabs... place won't do it, need the raw data.

touch up text tool (minor corrections)?

you could try to open in illustrator and copy/paste from there.
the problem you will face is the way text is saved in a pdf, things like tabs are not preserved, pieces of text are saved as distinct text blocks

try highlighting text
(then right click for menu)
you'll have options:
copy
copy as table
save as table

try "open table in spreadsheet" option (works for me)
