I went for a free eye test the other day and although I could read the bottom line OK, I was told my vision could be correctly slightly.
When I put on the prescribed glasses, things were slighly clearer & sharper.
My question is...If I start wearing glasses for computer work only, will my eyes deteriate or become lazy?
- MrOneHundred0
Yep, but you will look more intelligent.
I wear them, but just for driving, or general walking around. And also for watching TV.
- so pretty much all the time then?_salisae_
- Yeah, except sleeping, showering and sitting in front of the computer.MrOneHundred

And yes probably ... I've needed corrective vision since about 4th grade (so probably since 2nd) but my eyes have stopped at just above "legally blind" as of late.
But that is probably genetics since you made it this far in life already.
And no, you can't get a handicapped parking pass if you are "legally blind" I've inquired.
- You're not legally blind unless your eyes can't be fixed with corrective lenses.Jaline
- I'm the same way, and thought about how I would be legally blind otherwise.Jaline
- Yea, I think that's what it came down to. Like we would be literally blind ... only if we couldn't find our glasses.flavorful
- Literally ... G-D DAMN IT!!!!
FAIL!!!! FIGURATIVELY!!!
http://www.flavorful…flavorful - I can still see ... stuff. But it's not black. It's just pretty impossible to discern anything.flavorful
- Yeah. Everything is a blur when I take my glasses off. I can see shapes and colour, but sometimes I can't tell who is whoJaline

Yes, I have had my glasses for about 18 months and my eyes are as bad now with them on than they were before I got the glasses.
- Pseuro0
now you got me all paranoid about my eyes

I have never had any probs, but without a benchmark, how can you tell how good your sight is. My eyes haven't deteriorated over the years in front of the computer, not have I had headaches. I just wanted to know, that if I start wearing them, will they get lazy?
- MrOneHundred0
I noticed I was squinting when trying to read traffic signs, text on the TV, that kind of thing. Getting glasses sorted it right out, but now 18 months later, I am starting to squint to look at those things again, even with my glasses on. So soon I will have to go back and get a stronger prescription. So yes, Your vision does get “lazy”.

Great thanks...Mr100 that answers my question perfectly.
- no prob.MrOneHundred

I think if they're slightly out, you'll do more bad than good by having them. This is based on experience:
My Mum was told the same, chose not to get glasses and went 20 years without really needing them.
My Girlfriend was told the same, chose to get glasses and quickly came to rely on them.
The eye is controlled by loads of muscles - glasses makes it easier and the muscles get a bit lazy, I think:
Also, keep in mind the optician gave you a free eye test and will only make money when he sells you something. Glasses are bloody expensive.

Exactly what I thought...Thanks for confirming Caculator
- Jaline0
You don't *need* them.
- Yeah, my optometrist was very aware of avoiding that word, in a “legal disclaimer” sort of fashion.MrOneHundred
- But, as you can imagine, I was just keen for something – anything to change my appearance.MrOneHundred

I think everyone is different. I got mine in 2003, and I only wear them when I really need them: driving at night, watching TV, and in the classroom (sometimes I want to put them on to be able to really look people in the eye too). Anyway, I got another eye exam last spring and the doctor said that my prescription had changed, but only barely perceptibly. I think I may have gotten them at the right time before any major degradation of my vision occurred. Again, I think every case probably varies by individual.

your eyes will adjust and you will need to go stronger and stronger as mr. 100 pointed out. I would delay as long as possible.
