I just registered a few domains (similar to my main website) that I am forwarding to my main website.
Should I submit these domains to google and other search engines, even though they are just forwards? are you allowed to do that by google?
thanks

There is no need to do that since they are redirects. If there is an actual HTML page that your recent domain name purchases reside on then maybe consider submitting to the search engines.

nope no html page - i guess the question is - by just setting up the domain as a 301 forward to the main website... will this result in the forwarded domain(s) showing up in google searches?
- Pretty sure a 301 is intended to ignore the "old" site, the intended purpose being to drive people to a new one, not both.NONEIS

I don't think they'll show up if there's no html page there. If you're doing it you might as well put up a page with a redirect and a bit of content if you want search engines to read the domains.

yeah not a bad idea i guess - then i can submit the redirect pages to google and they will be indexed. i guess that's the only way of doing it?

actually that won't work as i have no hosting, just the domain. here's the definition of 302 from the registar
If you are redirecting your domain to a web site A 301 redirect sends people to the site you specified in the Forward To field using a "301 Moved Permanently" HTTP response. The HTTP 301 response code tells user-agents (including search engines) that the location has permanently moved.
A 301 redirect can provide a long-term solution to point your domains to business or affiliate sites. A 302 redirect points your domain to a temporary page while you build your permanent web site. The specific redirects help the search engines distinguish how long your web site information will be located at its current location.

I think you also might want to consider that google / yahoo etc aren't so dumb as they used to be and you probably won't get much benefit from redirected domains anyway as they will surely have some weighting they give to sites with little or duplicated content that simply redirect.

anyone have any other suggestions on this?

what are you trying to achieve? ..building up the rank of the other domains, or just driving traffic to your main site? (There might be better ways to do that)

no point in 301 ing them until theyre indexed. my advice is create some splash pages on these domains - with some nice texts - no out bound links (use javascript if you have to click through - not on A HREF tho!!!) then once theyre indexed promote them for what theyre worth, once theyve got pagerank, then 301 them to your site for maximum benefit.

you have to choose either 301 or 302 forward at the domain registar. I'm trying to achieve driving more traffic to the website. I don't have any hosting attached to these domains. suggestions welcome
