i just graduated and i cant even remember what i learned....just kidding. seriously though, a college education is never 'stupid' or 'not worth it'. my college produced a few reports about the ROI on a college degree...

"The present value of the net benefit of a college education is over $350,000. A student
who could successfully complete college but for whatever reason chooses not to do so is
effect ively turning down a gift of $350,000 to be given to him at age 18. " - http://wpcarey.asu.edu/seidman/r…- Yea, but is the net benefit of a 120k degree that much higher than that of a 20k degree or a 40k degree?ukit

"Using the same figures presented
above, earning a college degree is seen to provide a real internal rate of return of nearly 12 percent. This means that if a student were to borrow the money to cover all of the costs of going to college and pay a real interest rate of 12 percent, he would have just enough in addit ional earnings over his lifet ime to pay off the loan with interest. Actual borrowing rates are, of course, much less than this. So the student makes out on the deal."

dude the only reason to spend that much money on school in a design field is if you get your MFA and are hell bent on being a professor, even with that said... a 120 k?! fuck that. Professors in quite a few design programs don't make shit anyways.
Bottom line... do you want to be a professor at a university?
no? then don't go to fucking school, stay where you're at and work your way up or switch it up a bit to a different place and work your way up.
- go to a uni, but i still think school is valid.studderine

Your $120k degree will still have you freelancing in 5 years. Only you'll be a high-end mercedes or a small condo deep in debt. Only you won't have either of those to show for it.

$120k is too much for anything that can't give that return (like an MBA, Law, etc.).
SVA has a pretty good reputation, as far as I know. I love the location.
But that cost is just too much.If it were somewhere like RISD, that has a really solid reputation, it would be worth considering (I loved my short time at RISD and Providence is moving forward). But still, that's a TON of money.
The one thing I will say is that most people cannot get better until they have reached a certain point in their design education. I don't think you can 'teach' yourself to be a good designer, not without a solid foundation or just raw talent (which 99% don't have to start, I sure didn't).
School debt is worth it, but even my grad school only cost about 25k for 3 years (UCLA).
