What is your opinion on being employed through a company in this manner, instead of being a full-time employee of a company? What's the point? Other than not having to provide benefits to the person?

I'd only do it if they pay you an above average rate. to make up for the missing benefits - also, if you do that you open yourself to being laid off at any moment with no notice so make sure it is worth your while

Could be advantageous for write-offs for the freelancer ... just don't get sick.

if you can bargain mondays off always then i would take it.

that is true - register yourself as a sole proprietor then you can write off business expenses

I much prefer to be freelance. You're more flexible with taking vacations because the employer has a freelance budget. And, in addition, being able to earn interest on untaxed income is great.

just check your responsibilities with your accountant. it was the case here in aus that if you earn't over a certain percentage of your income from the same employer it was considered a fulltime employment and changed the tax rate etc.

in the uk, you can only work at a place as freelance for a certain amount of time before it is deemed a full time role
