I'm thinking about getting the V500. If the largest film I am doing is MF, should I not bother with the V700, or is it worth it? I made some attempts at scanning last night with the 4990 we have at work, and the results were completely fucked. I think I tried every option, and read a ton of troubleshooting tips online, and still no dice. Either the film and holder were solid black, or completely blown out. I coudn't get anything decent in the middle. We have another 4990 that is connected to a PC, so if I get really frustrated, I may try that. What do you guys think?

i had a 4990 and had no problems with it, thats strange. v500 is great if thats the biggest your going to shoot. v700 would be nice for the comfort and wet mount capabilities, but honestly, if you want to scan something in at 50x50" 800000dpi, just send it out and get it done on an imacon or other drum scanner.

Yeah, I think I am leaning towards the V500. Most of what I want scanned is mainly for the web, and small prints if I get something I really like. If I ever get a decent enough concept, and all of my shit together, then I think you are right about the drum scanning being the way to go...

Ok, so I got the scanner to work properly last night, but the film holder covered up a bit of the frame/edges. How do I scan so I can get the frame edges? I thought about putting the film flat on the glass, but it curled up, and looked blurry in parts. Any suggestions?
I completed my scans, but still want the frame edges, so I will probably rescan later. Could this be as simple as just getting a piece of glass to lay on top of the film so the light shines through, but it still lays flat? This might be a good way to scan more film at once too.

What setup should one look to be digital-ready?
I read Mamiya upwards from 645 AF can take Kodak DCS Pro Back16MP digital cassette. Are there better options?
- bolus0
those digital backs are very very expensive
mamiya 645 and rz/rb models, hasselblads can take digital backs, I'm not sure if it is worth it if you're not making a living using it
- Tungsten0
Most of the older used digital backs that are designed for tethered shooting only.
