Fuck that...
Worst thing is that you have your name in that site's footer. people will assume you did that :o(
I always think who the clients is and based on that I add my credit on the footer or leave it out completely.
- yeah I'll get them to remove it if they don't revert the updates...BannedKappa

Yikes! I feel your pain.

It's funny when you can clearly see what you did and what the client has added. The site starts off real good and as soon as you scroll down: "BAM" that MS word looking graphic smacks you in the face.
I used to have clients that would rape my designs and code and would add terrible graphics and 3d spinning logos more or less like your client did.
(The original site was very nice! :)

Oh hells yes. Once upon a time I designed a site with minimal photos, and limited colour palatte. Then came the adding of bigger headlines, then more colours, then centered text, then even bigger headlines for emphasis.
Then I cried.

That a winner. There really is not mush to can do, apart from informing the client that it looks shit.

this is very common.
at some stage you have to let go and be less sensitive. its not easy to do but you have to, otherwise clients feedback and designability will drive you to insanity

At least they pay you for updates. A lot of my clients think I'm on an endless call for updates, years later after they paid for the site.
It's a tough one this though as maybe giving them a decent rate for updates would enable you to keep the integrity of the design. But maybe doing updates for them would be dull. I think it's a hard one trying to own/manage all your web work and not allow it to evolve too far from your original design.

yup, sucks. I just take my companies name off any site that becomes a train wreck.
At least you were aware of it.

I never put my credit on work I do, and I put the finished version I think is good on my portfolio.
not your fault if the client mess with your work.

I'm experiencing the same thing on a daily, sometimes hourly basis. It comes down to money saving and making their accounts books look half decent - such is the current climate (in the UK at least) of clients cutting back on non-essentials.
