Is the phrase saying 'Learn life through experience'?
I prefer the colour of option 1. Think its more eye catching, as the grad in option 2 tends to make the map blend more with the background colour. I would say that the colours in either one looks more young to me, the cyan/ pink combo is more youthful.
In both I think that the blue bar holding the 'stein study abroad' dominates the whole thing. Especially in option 2 where it looks unbalanced (is that a word?) sitting at the header. try making that smaller, making your title work better with the map and it'll start to balance the whole poster up.
By the way, I do like the map, pretty nice chief.

I think option 1 is stronger, the gradient on the map on option 2 looks a little too washed out although I think the background works nicely. I'd probably try option 1 but with the background colour of 2.
+1 on the nice map

Un, non?

don't think the gradient suites the overall style (type and vector silhouettes, a la screenprinting), maybe look at flat colours but keep the warm background? suggesting paper?

option 1

I like option 1 the best, maybe bump the black down a bit to 95/90% though, imo.

Aye, much better imo. I like option 1, prefer the grungy blue with no grungy brown up top. The whole thing looks more considered and the title definitely reads better.
Good up ye cochise!

ps the strap line is "learn through life experience". the gap at the bottom is for point of sale stuff. the logo I may not be able to change.
Could it work better if the icons were coloured, to say a 5 colour palette, or would that look to hectic? We're trying to draw people in to see a couple of icons, then look more closely at the other icons and actually read the poster hopefully!- I like that its a minimal colour palette, I think it works. Also like how its only a few icons coloured, as you said.ian

it looks like there is not much to learn in Africa. Why so bare?
Are the icons based on the locations the program offers?
