Can this be done w/ Wordpress?

Many of you know I redesigned my church's logo earlier this year. I'm now getting down to the website. The current one is atrocious, but it's easy for church people to work with. They have this software that publishes updates to the calendar and each ministry section.
The question: would one of you programming gurus mind poking around the current site a bit, and tell me if you think the functionality could be transposed into Wordpress? I ask b/c I'm not a programmer, they have very little money, and they need to regularly update content. I'm open to any and all suggestions. If it must be coded from scratch, let me know.

yeah, seems pretty straightforward. there appears to be nothing in the calendar, so not sure what expectations are for that. wordpress has calendar functions built in, but there are more featured calendar plugins that you can add.

oh, that stuff on the bottom of the homepage are calendar items? or under about us > coming events? i was looking in members > calendar. this is confusing!

you can basically do anything with Wordpress if you learn how the system works and can code well

@ SigDesign— yeah see that's the thing: I know nothing about code. Haven't written a single line of it since 2003.

They use this ACS software made by some Christian organization specifically for churches. Right now they sync it up with the calendar (or they did, back when there was actual content on the calendar).

As Sig said, you can do just about anything with WordPress if you know your way around PHP and CSS. I think WP is a good starting point for you and it will handle a lot of what you need but I think you are going to need to hire someone with CSS and PHP knowledge to help you. If you hire good help you can get the site down in a couple of weeks. Without help, you will jerk around for months and end up with less than what you want.
- BTW - I liked the logo you created for them. I remember your original post.TResudek

Bump for the day crowd.
Once I get the site up and running, and if it's done w/ Wordpress, could the church staff maintain the site without needing any programming knowledge?

Furthermore: if it is true what Sig and TResudek say about needing to know PHP & CSS, then I need a freelance programmer to collaborate with me on this project. Must have high attention to typographic detail. Compensation available, but not a whole lot—tight budget here.

Any takers?

I couldn't, but keep in mind that although it seems simple to people like us to use Wordpress, it might be a challenge for them. So, imagine how they'd edit the site...
You could get by with knowing very minimal PHP for wordpress... you'd just have to copy and paste a few lines around. But, you would have to know CSS...
