thank you, because i was just thinking about this because of scarabin's comments in the Layoff's thread because movie's made big bucks in the last depression because they offer escape and Gone With The Wind was huge in that period so i was thinking, mmm maybe this new Baz Luhrman offering "Australia" will get all the girls and pussies in like Gone with the Wind and will break box office records.

Gone With The Wind came out in 1939, after the Depression was over. It held every box office record for attendance, and gross, for over 30 years.
