I want an iphone, but dont want to switch from tmobile. (I'm still using a f'n razr lol)
I've checked other sites and everyone says something different.
so whats really the deal?

you would have to unlock the iphone for it to work, bottom line.
- And buy used or sign up with AT&T for a new one.selfproclaim

right I get that.... but what works/doesn't work?
- Visual voicemail will not work. I assume Safari and the e-mail work fine.selfproclaim

your guarantee with apple might not work - by that I mean any protection plan you purchase. other than that it should be fine from everything I've heard.

ok so if something happens to it, you're SOL...... and the only thing that doesnt work (after you unlock it) is the visual voicemail?

yes

you would need a data plan from tmobile... they might ask questions if you do not allready have a smartphone/pda/blackberry

i *may* have done this ;) visual voicemail won't work, but everything else seems to. you also need the first generation iphone, i believe.

Could a 3G be unlocked and set up with T-Mobile?
I have been a Bberry user for years and am contemplating switching to an iPhone. I still don't know if it's worth it, but, I have been told it does work if the phone is unlocked. I don't care about the visual voicemail, as long as the rest of applications, specially Mail work.

My buddy has one ---iphone through tmobile but i dont know how he got it. He is kind of sketchy so i dont believe what he says. From what I know you have to buy the europe iphone from tmobile or something then hook it up in the states

nah, there are a lot of phones out there that are unlocked and working (not european).

Just got the G1 from T-Mobile (and Google). It's pretty money.

As far as I know, there is no unlock for a 3G iPhone in the US. This is because the firmware has been altered since the 2G and nobody has managed to unlock it yet.
However, If you want a 3G phone unlocked, you'll have to get one natively unlocked from either China or India (eBay is your best bet)
If you can get a 2G one, it's simple to unlock/jailbreak using the iPhone dev tool. It works perfectly and you won't give a second thought to visual voicemail.

or you could just buy one of these and not even have to jailbreak the phone...

"I'm still using a f'n razr lol"
And it still works presumably? So what's the problem... you no longer feel it says the right things about you?
- To be fair it's a shitty phone and mostly used by teen girls.Jnr_Madison
- You should get one.Jnr_Madison
