saw this:
http://www.99designs.com/and thought what the hell is sitepoint promoting in their newsletters? This is SPEC work.
What is different here, is that people start making designs and are chosen prior to being "hired". Not chosen, no cash.
On the other hand, crowd sourcing is pretty cool.
Thoughts?

i've entered a few. after hours and hours of boring shite work for the pay i thought a few creative briefs would be fun. gave myself a deadline of an hour per one, so on the off chance i won a couple of hundred would be ok.
the work that won was quite often utter shite in my mind. either that or i'm a frustrated shite designer in complete denial. probably the case.

wow, wish I was a client, that's a whole lot of choice...
Competition is fierce!

haha there was a huge deal over this when Aquent posted a contest on that site (99designs) to redesign their homepage, leading to a long, angry thread on QBN. Eventually they withdrew the contest.

For what it's worth, I recently wrote an article on my blog about this very topic of crowdsourcing and spec work. If interested, take a look: http://monkeyshinemedia.net/monkā¦

...and it is beyond me why any half decent designer would ever participate in something like this.
