not as much as foreigners would think.
but perhaps a lot more than for instance the USA.

the Dutch govt. is very wary about our international "image" and thus treats "Dutch design" and art as some sort of brand. Promising talents and also famous ones will get special attention on international trade missions and fundings etc.

Personally I am very Dutch (not caring too much about one specific style/trend etc.) in my approach to style though. I mostly look abroad for inspiration! :D
Even though foreigners may find my style Dutch or whatever..tis weird. this world we live in.

dutch design is often thought of as an aesthetic but it's really more of a mentality, which is usually strongly associated with communication, experimentation and staying away from global trends...

So, when dealing with Dutch clients, or clients that go to Dutch designers and firms for work do you find that there is a lot of leeway given by client to the designer to do their thing and come up with something innovative, even if the client does not completely "get" the outcome of the creative process?

Van Nelle factory. (Dutch brand of coffee)
Icon of Dutch corporate architecture. Extremely modern in its days.It now turned into a design factory, with tons of big and small creative agencies in it:
