the thing about flash is that it makes it possible to make better interfaces with better interaction than html scrollbars and page flashing links. It is possible and worth the effort to learn programming and try to achieve this goal.

Ahhem... by no means am i a portfolio or flash expert.
However, if you plan to develop a flash website firstly make sure it does something different to as opposed a HTML website would. Remember, animation and integration of sound goes a long way in flash and are both less prominent in HTML websites. I would suspect a Flash portfolio to take almost twice as long as one developed in HTML. If you are to looking at other peoples flash portfolio websites please try and keep your ideas original and try not to steal designs or replicate complete interfaces.
Best of all, get a second opinion before you show your website to a prospective employer.- in other words
submit here for a grillingWeLoveNoise - i think what people dislike about flashsites is that they deter too much from standard webberikjonsson

if you look at other sites then they are going to have an influence on what you do.
take some time away from the internet, smoke some weed, chill and let your imagination wander. whatever works for you.

i just think that people who choose the flash option dont have to go over the top just because they can animate with the interface.By all means use the tools flash has but dont feel like you need to go all crazy and over the top with the flash route.
I personally like the flash route if the animation and transitions are used as minimal as posible.
one of my favs

When sites were for fun and games instead of data and banking. http://www.designcharts.com/ still looks pretty good to me if I get my Flash plugin to play it. Last updated in 2012.
