Do some research and build your own.. The time invested is well worth the bundle saved.. Wait a little while for i7 chips to drop in price.. Build the best machine you can, then put whatever OS you please on it. With a little tinkering and some registry edits, Vista isn't half bad, but it's garbage on default settings. Vista x64 has been a lot more stable for me at home than OSX at work, but that's simply because I built my machine, customized the hell out of the settings, and didn't put any intrusive software like (the aforementioned)Norton on my machine (Virii do less damage than Norton software). Not a single crash in almost 4 years. Never buy a big manufacturer PC.
That being said, different Linux builds are getting better by the day. You can always setup a couple partitions and test out multiple OS's.. Each have their positives.

Mac User have never had to deal with any of this bullshit!
Downadup virus exposes millions of PCs to hijack
A new sleeper virus that could allow hackers to steal financial and personal information has now spread to more than eight million computers in what industry analysts say is one of the most serious infections they have ever seen.

The question if flawed, pick your OS software, then that's your answer. Technically speaking, a apple computer is a PC now that's it's intel based.
If you want OSX but don't want to pay for it from apple, to spice things up buy your own parts and go for it. You can hack Leopard into installing onto any computer but it's a lot of work.
http://www.macworld.com/article/…And there's a Psystar PC, that Apple is in a lawsuit with but hey that's not stopping them from doing what they do. http://www.psystar.com/

I got a new 2.26GHz(2) Quad-Core Intel Xeon MacPro on April. The machine is very solid. The only upgrade I'm going to be making is a new VelociRaptor hard drive and 1GB of memory. I do print and front-end web development. I'm currently using Two Dell's 27-Inch LCD's.

I think now a days the operating system is irrelevant .. you spend 90% of your time in the programs and they are the same on whatever platform you choose
I would for the PC until Mac lowers their price
- good luck. that day a new benz will cost like a kia.akrokdesign
- Don't even compare a Mac with a benz. idiot.Killer
- n8w0
alot of these "sound bites" are just fed to people through advertisements and a lot of them aren't even relevant anymore .. I never had an issue with a virus on a PC .. I have worked on both Mac and Windows... and am not loyal to either .. but I am very loyal to Photoshop, Illustrator, etc

I've had a MacPro for 2 years now. Best machine I've ever owned.
Apple is worth every penny when it comes to comfort, design and reliability. You pay more but its worth it.- that's a 1984 argument...pr2
- stfu pr2, you obviously know very little about Macs and OS X.monospaced
- monospaced seems like an Apple fanboy, no offense.Jaline
- PCs are not as bad as you make it seem.Jaline

said it once, and i'll say it again: i use both mac and pc every day. i own both toshiba satellite laptop and a macbook pro. i own a self-built pc and my wife owns an imac...and i work on an 8-core macpro tower everyday at work.
Neither mac or pc is better or worse than the other. it totally depends on your prefs and what you feel most comfortable with. i have had plenty of problems/delights with both. i tend to run the shit into the ground regardless, which would probably make me a prime candidate to be a beta tester for both haha!

branding is a powerful thing. It turns a positive experience into untouchable magic, especially when you don't get a second computer to compare it to.

Pretty good price considering what you get.

Buy a PC, Macs are so fucking pretentious i.e. in making usually unjustified or excessive claims as of value.
- kalkal0
For the same price, you could get a substantially more powerful desktop pc.. and a somewhat better laptop too
- well how does that work, the mac Pro runs PC hardware.roundabout
- The macpro is expensive tookalkal
- when PC fixes the problem with viruses let me know .. otherwise I am staying MACrayborn3000

Apple, worth every extra penny!
- JSK0
I think it really depends on what kind of work do you.
For 3D work, go with PC.
- JSK0
I thought they are quietly discontinuing the MacPro.
- hell no, blazing fast new nehalems on the way woohooacescence
- They can't. That's their only desktop solution.kgvs72
- They're discounting MacBook pro, people need to educate themselves here.epete22
- so what. why should that matter.akrokdesign
- if you want a lambo, who care's if your balled and has tiny dick. just get it.akrokdesign

i think the one advantage my mac pro has over my pc is that it is presently running 3 operating systems, one being os x. and you could possibly shield yourself from gunfire with the case.

I'm very close to asking apple for a full refund, I'm not sure what I'd do then - pc/mac. See http://www.qbn.com/topics/579383…
My wife just got a new pc and I was amazed at the amount of messages, pop ups, errors, weird errors that mean nothing etc etc. For that reason I'd probably go with mac, even though you'll read how pissed I am with them

As far as work goes I'm a 2d designer and work with print and interactive. I'm currently using a 20" iMac (bad purchase because of the screen quality - should have got the 24") and I love the fact that I can run both windows and OSX.
- refunktion0
my mac pro is awesome, hopefully i don't have to sell it to eat next month.
- JSK0
If you are a designer, go with Mac.
- Why? If it works, use it. You can run nearly the same things on both computers. This argument doesn't make sense to me.Jaline
- thank you, Im sick of his argument too. Getting a mac doesn't make you a better designer. all the tools a designer needs is on bothsteven_segal
- actually i find the adobe suite to run faster and more stable on pc's. prefer home pc vs work macprodeathboy
- Agreed, that argument is no longer valid. I hate Windows Vista with a passion, xp's too old, so I moved to macs.section_014
- ...Not because of anything else.section_014
- Windows 7
(or at least that's what I hear ;-) )formed
