more work for the same amount of money... riiiight.
- D_Dot0
Well. it sucks about the money, but at least you still have a job and a chance to prove yourself. At the very least you can start looking for a new job with your new title if they don't give you a raise soon.
Good Luck!

Ask for your old title back. keep the responsibility. Unless you like your bosses placating you. Ask them to give you the Art Director title when they're ready to pay you accordingly. Otherwise, make sure you negotiate to have your salary increased within a certain timeframe (time bomb scenario - job go boom).

Wouldn't it be a demotion...you have more work (assuming) with same pay. Mathematically that could be proportionally reckoned to mean: Same amount of work with less pay.
- Corvo20
A. more work, same rank, same pay= -1
B. more work, more rank, same pay= 0 (CV honours)
C. more work, more rank, more pay = +1B happened to me a while back. I'm thinking of taking the title and run.

congrats!

yeah, I have been hearing a lot of this going around lately. People are getting taken advantage of left and right with the promises of a pay hike down the road. BE careful if you travel that path.
Places are trying to save the $$$ and trying to stay afloat, but they really don't know if they will turn it around.
I already know 2 people who did this and were laid off 1 month later.

Whats the new vs old title?
- braaad0
That smoke'n'mirrors type stuff happens at my work almost every other month. It's called crummy leadership.

What's the job structure like in the US? How long do you have to work in a place before you become an "effective employee" and the firm can't fire you unless:
1. you screw up really bad
2. your post/rank is extinguished (lay-off w/ compensation)
3. you agree to leave with a compensation deal?

congratulations!

i think it's a way of demonstrating their appreciation for you and that they value your work and want to see you grow within the company; possibly even a way of reassuring you that your job is safe there (even though they can't afford to give you a raise)
i'm sure the money will follow...

i see a lot of people bitching and moaning about more work and more responsibility, but often job titles don't equate to that at all...
how about in your case? is the new job title really going to require significantly more work than your previous title?
at smaller companies titles don't really mean much anyway, everyone ends up wearing different hats to get the job done.
- You obviously run your own company. It's not about having more work.Corvo2
