What's so great about a tablet? Pros, contras please (As you may have guessed, I've never worked with a tablet before)

no

doing graphics with a mouse is like drawing with a brick... at the office they introduced me to the wacom and it made a world of difference

Grr, thanks for the reminder. I'm just now touching up a graphic in PS and regretting not having the tablet plugged in, as it'd make my job a lot easier.
Perhaps I should. Having pressure sensitivity on my brush means I don't have to keep manually swapping brush sizes when touching up details.
- I don't do much painting in PS, so a mouse is ok for my PS work.jimbojones

Photoshop or Freehand (Illustrator if I'm really drunk)? I can't imagine how I would drag a bezier with a pen
- it is so much more accurate and precise .. really .. try it..Jordy

it's seriously laughable when you use photoshop for the first time with a tablet and realize all those tools you've been using for years have pressure sensitivity that is not accessible with a mouse.
i guarantee you will "DOH!" out loud.
- But is it so useful if I don't paint much in PS?jimbojones
- do you ever retouch a photo? use the clone tool? or maybe will open the door to sketching and tracing lineart to vectors.horton

it even makes the finder easier in my opinion... jump from corner to corner instead of the dragging all over the palce

best buy has a thirty day return policy!!!! try one
I went through 10 different mice, as I am anal retentive freak and am now a full-time wacom whore! no more mice for me...

Apparently you can get the 4x6 intuos for $159 after rebates (US), on their online site. Have to be US resident though.

I kept reading "should I buy a woman"
- would be cool if they would offer a thirty day return policy on that too.nbq
- hah! first nagging appears after 2-3 months, 30 days won't help...jimbojones
- you just get rid before that and get your money back as well. not bad at all.nbq

also re. the vectors Q:
it's great for flowing or organic looking vectors. freehanding custom characters and scripts is really nice too. lay a photograph and trace overtop for a quick vector silhouette = huge time saver. or i sometimes tape paper to my tablet to draw with a more toothy feel closer to pen on paper.
i keep my mouse nearby for doing tech vectors clicky stuff.
- also love when drawing vectors you can just naturally flip the pen to use eraserhorton
- FontLab too?jimbojones

Does anyone use theirs on a double monitor set up??
I'm curious as to how it would work.
- horton0
with dual display you can map it to both but i found the stretched dimensions to distorted and/or a waste of tablet surface.
i instead keep my tablet mapped to main display and use mouse for secondary display (on right/ right hand).
sounds awkward but it actually works great for me.
- Thanks. That sounds like it would be the best way to work it. I just keep email on the 2nd mostly.lherb
- yeah totally... my email, itunes and font manager are on display 2 which i use primarily scroll wheel on mousehorton
- great also if your display 2 has a usb plug for your mousehorton
- one of my buttons on my intuos is set to display toggle . best option ever .. no mouse for meJordy

i use one for indesign.... its amazing... i have about 10 key comands programed on my pad... It allows me to work about 3 times faster
- how is it different from the standard shortcuts? or is it some kind of macro stuff?jimbojones
- some key commands use 3 keys... its easier and faster to just push one button on the tabletESPtype
