Why is it always so hard to get content? How can I make a site without content?? Do I pull it out of my ass?

...and why do you need content? Can't you design now and have them fill in content later?? hhmm?? I am working with a strategist right now who seems to think that Lorem Ispum equates a strategy. It's exasperating.

Should build a site and make shitloads of revisions, and rebuild the whole damn thing again?

you don't build the whole site, you build so the client can get the idea or how the site will look.
yes, if you don't have content. you have to make room for it. (placement).

the word design implies intelligent planning. design should be based off of the content. if you don't have content, it's not really design. it's decoration. "leaving a space for content" or just placing filler text doesn't allow the content to influence a design. it's ass backwards.

instead of lorem Ispum i just type "blablablablablablablabla" to force the client to give me the content, but the classic solution is recycle from the old website...

I built close to 80 pages already on this site, and now he wants to make more changes, and make the whole site customisable.
- did you plan for that?Salarrue
- For the most part using frames, but there's only so much I can planepikore
- And he asked for it to be customisable at the 7th month.epikore
- 80 pages. LOL!akrokdesign
- i would tell the client that it would change the deadline and the project price.akrokdesign
- not recommended but, if its needed. it can be done.akrokdesign
- this isn't a freelance clientepikore
- sweet jesus - you shouldn't use frames... go research open-source CMS's, pick one, and build a site using it...lukusW

i'm so glad i'm not the only one that suffers this problem.

first sentence in my contract is all content is delivered to me before starting work.

The reason I made this post was because I knew it wasn't common from my past experiences.

Frames? Number of Pages?
Ever heard of something called a "Content Management System".

do a search on open source cms's ... i'd recommend looking at drupal, joomla and textpattern - pick a product that has a wide base of users
- lukusW0
takes a while to learn -> a lot longer to master... it's not super difficult though... try it out... drupal's a good choice

You should ask derek blais. He has barely ever had content on his site, only puts up splash pages (http://www.derekblais.com, http://www.newmediaathletes.com/…), then redesigns those, and he gets free hosting from MediaTemple to do all this.
According to LinkdIn, he's worked with: Adobe, AOL Time Warner, Apple, Bell, Cheerios, Coca-Cola, Elite Models, Fido, Ford, General Mills, General Motors, Intrawest, Levis, Loblaws, Lucky Charms, McDonald’s, Media Temple, Microsoft, Nike, Red Bull, Pizza Pops, Playstation, Princess Margaret Hospital, Reese, Saab, Samsung, Saturn, Wunderman, Cossette, Youthography, Warner Bros, Apple, Switch Interactive, Blast Radius, Tribal DDB, Arnold, The NRG Group, Juxt Interactive.
So, don't be discouraged!
